TD42 extreme high oil pressure
TD42 extreme high oil pressure
just searching for a few ideas.. this motor is under warranty but its a long story, and not alot of help coming from the warranty side, just after a few suggestions as to what would cause massive oil pressure in a TD42 n/a motor (no turbo)
starts/idles ok.. blows a little blue smoke out the filler cap, runs 30psi oil press at idle... and 157psi at 3000rpm !!
already tried pulling the pressure relief valve apart to make sure the piston inside slides freely and all seems to work well there, this is a reco motor and so far all the seller (will remain nameless) wants to do is offer ideas of things to try.. and they are now on holidays till the 11th, i've tried their ideas (oil change new filters and pressure relief valve)
now im stuck for suggestions so ill leave it to the outers expert section
anyone got a simple quick and easy fix that'll take me 5min and all will be sweet and i can go wheeling etc etc and pretend it never happened???

Re: TD42 extreme high oil pressure
when they come back from holidays take it to them to fix.. dont touch it.
yeah i will be, all im doing at the moment is looking for a small easy fix which i doubt it'll be... cause i know its gonna be a battle for warranty now - spent most of the last day b4 they went on holidays getting put on hold - GREAT customer service, speaking to a few people im slowly finding out im not the only one who's had trouble thru this one shop before..

should be high oil pressure when motor is cold at idle and or revs and should drop when motor heats up, what guage are you running, is it electronic or mechanical?Ryan wrote:cold idle was 35ish psi... meant to only get 51 max when hot.. plus the blue smoke from the zaust me thinks somebody put something together wrong
11th is getting close so we'll wait and see i guess.
try doin a test on pressure when truck is hot
What does the in-dash pressure gauge show? if it has one.
Your engine has 3 oil pressure relief valves, one for the pump then the filter and then the cooler. The only one that will return excess oil/bleed straight back to the pan is the pump relief valve the others will pressurise the entire engine or at least that is what i remember from when i last looked into it.
Don't forget to keep the forum informed of how and what turns up!

the in dash guage goes off the dial lol. thats why i plugged in an after market one to get an accurate reading -- the only pressure relief valve i know of is the one on the exhaust side of the block at the back.. and it seems to work properly its been pulled apart and checked.
wont know anything much till the 11th when the supplier is back and even then i think it may be a little battle from what ive heard bout them thru others.
was just hoping the outers pool of knowledge may have had a simple easy fix like "yeah its that bolt there should be the other way round" kinda thing hehe wishful thinking i know but hey i had 3 weeks of holidays and zero wheeling action!
hopefully its a straight forward fix and it'll be up n running asap but ill keep you posted with the outcome

someone who knows more can correct me but i think the exhaust side on is the pump relief and the other two reliefs are on the other side, one just forward of the oil filter and within the same housing and easy to spot as i have cleaned that one before (pretty sure i did anyway), the last one I do not know where it hides, might be worth a look on that side??

we got normal pressure !!!
theres 3 oil pressure relief valves. one at the rear of the motor on the exhaust side. one on the intake side infront of the oil filters, and one on the same housing pointing straight down..
the one pointing straight down was jammed solid
fixed that (ended up being a new housing but thats for different reasons)
and now we got good oil pressure and are good to go
changed the oil/filters and the smoke out the top has gone, and mech says that the blow by amount thats coming out the breather and filler cap etc is normal
