my sierra is running again after giving it a good swim but not well appears there is water somewhere in the fuel system
so i have read dropping some metho into the fuel tank will remove moisture in the fuel system
it makes sense but anyone done it how well does it work
how much? and mixed with how much fuel?
also my starter is jamming up all the time now. is it a difficult job to remove and service a starter?
any help would be much apreciated
thanks

metho in the fuel tank???
Firstly can you drain your tank first.
If not i used to put 500ml's of metho to a full tank (35ltrs) in my corolla. For some reason that tank would get water in it all the time.
As for the starter its a very simple job. you have a couple of wires, one through bolt, one threaded bolt.
But if you have arms the size of legs like i do, you might struggle getting your arms in there comfortably, its such a simple job i've even let my sister do it when she wanted to learn about it. But she can also do diff/gearbox and transfer oil changes unassisted.

yea i drained around 10 litres out of my fuel tank today i figured as water is heavier than fuel it would come out first or at least i should see some in the first 10L but it appeared fine
i undid the 14mm bolt on the front of my carbie and drained all the fuel out sprayed a crapload of cleaner in there to flush it out
still running crap like there is water in there somewhere
I have checked spark plugs leads and dizzy three times they are well and truely cleaned with carby clean and CRC'd
sierra is still running crap
really starting to regret plowing into that water hole now
so yea i was really hoping that running metho throu would clean it out
as im fairly stumped aside from pulling the carbie apart and i am trying to avoid going down that road
any sugestions would be fantastic

your right, water is heavier than oil, and petrol is oil based. so it should float.mudbogga wrote:yea i drained around 10 litres out of my fuel tank today i figured as water is heavier than fuel it would come out first or at least i should see some in the first 10L but it appeared fine

drain the whole tank, and change the filter. Then run some more metho, other than that it starts to get expensive like rebuilding carbs etc.
also are you sure its fuel? hows the engine acting? it wouldnt be something silly like moisture in the dizzy, or a blown inlet manifold gasket?
heres a pic of memrRocky wrote:sounds like my kinda girl is she single ? I hope she doesnt have arms like your legs tooweaves wrote:its such a simple job i've even let my sister do it when she wanted to learn about it. But she can also do diff/gearbox and transfer oil changes unassisted.

now picture smaller boobs, longer hair... still want her.
I could put up with the smaller boobs (they could still be above average ) and the longer hair (so long as it is not on her chin like yours) but does the poor girl have fingers like pork sausages as well?weaves wrote: heres a pic of me

pps, I hope you have a horizontal bar behind your seats no lower than shoulder height that your seat belts go over.
Cable bracing is the way of the future!
