Upgrading brakes on 80

So yours fits the 15"rims over your model brakes ?
You can run the later units which are bigger and work better, and we have found using DBA slotted rotors and Bendix 4WD pads improves them, and we do another custome brake pad that works very well on bigger tyred and heavier trucks as well, dear, but you get what you pay for.
Heres some comments I got from a happy customer recently on the extra good pads.
I've just put in the DBA slotted disks and the you-beaut pads from Darren, and I've gotta say, wholly sh(t, what a difference !!! OK, they're a few more $'s than the Bendix, but well worth it.
"Previously the car would pull up OK, better than a lot of 80's I've driven, but could have been better. I'd already put the braided lines in there, and spent a lot of time bleeding etc, but now after only about five or six short quick pumps from 100-80 to bed them in, I'm getting some squeal out of the 35" Toyo's and the ABS is cutting in. Even light braking is sooooooo much better. Compared to a mates car with the braided lines, RDA slotted rotors and Bendix 4wd pads, running 33's, it stops much, much better.
I'm still a bit astounded at the difference, thanks Daz"

I've just gone the DBA & Bendix route and i'm very happy, but what are these custom pads, always looking for improvements.Assassin_Offroad wrote:DBA slotted rotors and Bendix 4WD pads improves them, and we do another custome brake pad that works very well on bigger tyred and heavier trucks as well, dear, but you get what you pay for.
Bob.
i have upgraded to the 16inch wheel brakes great mod. what you need is
-new front calipers from post 8/92
-new front backing plates from post 8/92
-new rear backing plates from post 8/92
you rear calipers are the same so you dont need new ones
new bigger dba slotted rotors front and back
100 series bendix front pads are bigger then 80 pads
with the bigger pads you need to leave the anti vibration plates out untill you pads wear down
hand brake shoes.
i used the 4000 series slotted front rotors and standard slotted rear rotors.
cheapest price i could find these was from a guy in melbourne. pm me if you want the info i think i still have it.
i think that is all i needed when i upgraded my brakes

Im running standard 15x8 sunnies.
Thanks
not sure everyone seems to say that they wont fit over the rear. front still fit apparently. i still have the originall 15x7 rims here but i havent gotten around to trying them. i know of some who have just upgraded the front brakes and left standard on the rear so they could still run 15inch rims if they want. i fitted 16 inch rims all round. great upgrade. one thing you will find is that the pedal will still travel just as far but stops alot better. i can now lockup my 285/75/16 tyres now.
