its a 2001 GU DX Ute, i ran into unseen log with one tyre and my steering wheel is now 90 degrees off where it should be...
in my old patrol 98 GU ST Wagon i just took the wheel off and turned it and put it back on level. because it had a spline.
but i dnt think my ute is the same?? because i take the retainer nut off and i cant pull the wheel forward to twist it. and ideas, has anyone else done this

If thats the case, given that the draglink goes from passenger side swivel hub to pitman arm, i would say this is where you're likely to find the damage. I don't think it will be the tie-rod as you're alignment would have been up the shit, and its also unlikely that a shock "pull" load on it would do any damage (aside from possibly ripping your rod ends out).
Check you're draglink ends too, just incase the end pins have bent or started to shear - you don't want those suckers breaking while the car is moving.
