Dont let anyone know from the yota side, but im considering selling my 2.8 turbo hilux and getting into an older GU coil ute.
I will only be looking at the turbo diesels and im not prepared to spend huge dollars on a newer one, so likely it will have 300-350,000km under its belt.
I will then put another 100 000 + onto it in the next 2 years.
Part of the reason for this is I feel a patrol with 450000 will be more reliable than a hilux with the same k's.
But what kinds of things would you expect to fail, or are common to fail in the patrols with higher k's.
I will be doing this for a more comfortable/reliable truck (the hilux has been good so far, but the boss hates its ride etc) rather than offroad performance as my lux is twin locked and im unlikely to be so lucky in the trol.
is 14L/100km realistic for normal driving and 16-18 towing heavier loads?
I have gone through a heap of stuff in nissan and searched but not found what i was after.

other than maintenance they are good for many more klm to come.. you can one shit itself at 10,000 or 100,000 so it just depends on maintenance and the OPERATOR at the end of the day.
the worst part with the GU's are the piss weak overdrive (5th gear) in the box but Marks adapters has sorted a solution for this. other than that they are bullet proof really..

I know its hard to check but one thing i found is the 99 00 4.2td model patrols , the 5th gear can get weak, My 5th gear stripped in mine but it was turning large tyres and it became a costly excercise, apparently nissan fixed this problem in 01 or 02 i was told,usually king pins and front wheel bearings every 200000, either than that there pretty unbreakable, my other gq 4.2td has over 400000 kms never misses a beat, you will find a patrol with some suspension travel will go the same places your lux did with lockers,more room in vehcle with alot better ride than ya lux thats for sure
sorry to drag this up again but is there much difference in the intercooled v's non intercooled TD42?
Power is both 114 kw but 10% more torque for the intercooled version.
is it mainly better for longevity of the engine or is it better to drive as well, not sure how noticable 10% moire torque would be? better torque/power curve? or just easier to pull extra power out of?

The only thing i'd check on with higher km cars is service history (duh) and suspension bushes. Having to replace all of the bushes can end up being bloody expensive. Aside from that, there aren't really any specific major things to look for aside from the "normal" 4x4 and car type things.
I've just bough an early GU wagon. When I was looking around I didn't see a particuarly strong correlation between km and condition.
I saw plenty of low km models in terrible (really, BAD) condition with clunks and dents and smells and rattles....but also saw some very high km models generally in good condition.
I'd be more interested in service history and how the vehidle has generally being maintained. I was much more willing to pay for one thats been looked after well for a long time, rather than one that has been abused for a short time.
