Odd idling

Post by Winkdog »

Hey all
the idle on my 1.6L carby 88 vitara is all weird
it says on constant revs but it sounds as if it's hunting
around

also there's a smell of fuel on start up and fuel seems to
be evaporating from somewhere cause every time I get
in to go for a drive there's less fuel on the gauge

It goes fine once you get going but the dissappearing fuel
is gettin annoying

you could leave the fuel cap off and not have a noticable amount of fuel evaporate.

to lose a noticable amount of fuel it would have to be a decent leak, dripping and be obvious super smelly etc.

are you sure the change in the guage isnt just your mind or an inaccurate guage?

cant help with your idleing.

probably a leaking hose at the carby thats spilling fuel onto the motor and evaporating away. Had this on my sierra when it had a weber on it - once the hose corrodes toa certain point it leaks ever so slightly and eventually you start noticing things like fuel smell and weird RPM etc.
