D40 nvara clutch problems

Post by 92mav »

Hi all i have a D40 navara of which i would not buy another even though i am die hard nissan. As stated in the tital i would like to know about others with clutch problems in the D40 particlarly the 2.5 deisel. now this has come about because my nissan dealer has sudgested they remove the gearbox too check the clutch as they have tested it and found it to be "FAULTY". After some probing but not freely offered they told me even though they thought it would be covered under waranty ( the car has done 70K) if it wasn;t i would have to pay for the reinstalation of the box and that if i was to have a new clutch installed at the time it would cost $1850

now i'm PISSED

i bought this car to retire my GQ to the tracks it did 350000 before the clutch was replaced in it towed the same trailer and did offroad as well which the navara has done none of. what do all of you outers peeps recon, is this shit or what . i can't afford the clutch at the moment and it aint slipping with a 1500kg trailer on it but it is getting real hard to ballance, its in or out. No real opportunity to ride it and its only picking up at the top of the throw

Fairly common problem on this model, unfortunately. Shouldn't be hard to find more info on more nav-specific forums. If your mechanics reckon its not working correctly, and you trust them that they will go in to bat for you to get it replaced under warranty, then I would let them do it.

very common on d40 2.5 td,if you tow regularly.

a friend tows 2.5t of trailer daily and has them replaced every 20 000km under warranty.

the d40 is now out of warranty and will be sold.

there is single mass conversion kits and heavy duty clutch available for them.
however be warned, i understand they are reflashing the ECU to drop the power in the low rpm, i assume in a effort to save the clutch.

clutch

Post by choppedtrol »

the problem is the clutch itself. i have replaced clutch in d40 at 112000km. it was its 3rd clutch. not sure who did the other 2 but i put a solid flywheel conversion kit in and has not had any problems. they also leak rear axle seals. cant buy bearings only complete axle from nissan. NOT CHEAP

there was a recall on those. problem in the housing which makes the seals leak.

hopefully i will get a new one under waranty and it will last untill i get a new ute in a couple of years. but what to get? maybe i will ditch the 4by for work all together and get a v8 ute or something as i have 2 other 4bys anyway so it wouldn't be to much of a loss

i've never seen a new hilux have clutch or fuel problems but i found out a problem with the navaras is that the gear/diff ratios are to high specially when towing.

the navara diff gearing is particularly hight you can't reverse without being on and off the clutch especially with a trailer on

mates got an 08 lux and has done 26 thou, never towed and the clutch gone...!
me thinks that any new age high tech diesel with piss poor of boost torque and their smaller fly wheels are burning through the clutches like no tomorrow!

also my boss's bt50 3.0l td has done a clutch after about 40thou...they are shocking engine/gearing set up in regards to taking off without riding the clutch flat out!
00 td42t wagon
