4 bolt mains and an 010 block......010 is a casting on the side towards the rear
010 blocks r slightly better metal from memory
and 4 bolt is just plain stronger.....holds the caps better obviously
Could be an old wives tale but , I remember reading some where That the early 2s where better iron , Factory went to 4 s after the mix was changed to keep the reliability up . But like i said probly frog shit.

I have heard the exact same thing .. Think it was a 3 or 4% higer nickel content in the early blocks ..
" If governments are involved in the covering up the knowledge of aliens, Then they are doing a much better job of it than they do of everything else "
2 Bolt 010 is stronger, I have been using them for years running big HP when I was drag racing. The main webbing in the old 2 bolt 010 blocks are thicker than the 4 bolters. The 4 bolters tend too crack between the threads, so I always get the 010 2 bolters and drill and tap 4 bolt steel splayed caps onto then. this is only needed if spinning over 6500 rpm.

The new Merlin aftermarket block are suppost to be real strong. If you are going to spend a fair amount of money prepping the block dont waste it on a factory block. There is better available now. Friend built a 420 ci small block recently and these became available just after he finished it, he was very pissed
Just got my after market SBC block for my new rig, but $2800 for a block may be a bit much, but it will be stroked to 427 ci and will be strong enough for the 2 turbo's going onto it.

Kev , There are some other issues that I have witnessed , x2
dudes had brought small bricks to biuld up in the non going form ,
Once one had biult his it developed a cooling prob That we couldn,t right.
after all the steam had cleared it turned out to be a pooress block.
This apprentice Poored a shid load of bucks into prep, only to find this as the outcome , The other one was a simaler scenario only lesser and managed to cure the prob with some of that magic in a can chemi weld.
Not exactly the sort of thing id be happy with pooring rubbish into my newley biult lump....

The block is a World Products Merlin 11, and starts life as a 350, the crank is made here in Melbourne and is a custom forged and the pistons are vanolia made to our specs, being around 8.5 to 1 comp for the turbos.
The motor in the Mav ATM is a 350 010 2 bolter converted to 4 bolt splayed caps, custom crank also with vanolia pistons to our specs, around 10 to 1 comp.
