89 hilux should i buy
Ok found a 89 hilux 4x4 2.8 diesel non turbo, manual, pizza cutter tyres, broken handbreak cable, busted drivers seat, Bit rough looking could do with respray, passenger door rusted out needs replacement, no other rust to see runs and drives ok. alloy tray.for $1500 3 mnths rego too. Whats your thoughts guys?

yea fair point. my gq is big heavy on fuel slow and attracts attension. Was thinkn of tidying up the lux a little bit nd chuck the 33s under the house on it and use it as a daily driver be handy to cuck my tools in the back ect. then maybe cn mod my gq sum mre.

You are going to not like the comfort of it at all after having a gq(coils).
The leaf springs are as hard as a few flat pieces of steel mounted together and used as springs.
You say it has a snapped handbrake cable, all luxes have shitty handbrakes, mine included.
You say that it has some rust, most luxes have rust, mine included.
Cheese grader tyes, Im unfamiliar with this term but you should be able to put 31s on 15x7 straight on with no dramas, 33s may require some lift, which is easy.
Its a bit rough, well its an old lux.
Just make sure you check everything possible, ie; floor for rust, a-pillar for rust, not too much smoke out of the exhaust, the usual stuff.
It might be lacking on road power, but I tell you what though, put it in low range, and hit the hills, and it will come alive.
But Id buy it.

Now go buy that lux, build it up and use the gq as the towcar.

These are common to go on Hilux's, and although the individual items aren't overly expensive, add it all up and its a fairly hefty repair bill.
I had a look at an '87 2.4D ute a few weeks ago, and while the tray/body was in less-than-average condition, the driveline revealed years of neglect and farm abuse. Even to replace the components above it still wasn't worth the bargain price the car was for sale for.
