60 series g/box conversion/ vaccum lines question

Post by brendan rooke »

Righto boys and girls got a question about vaccum lines on my 61 series.

Im in the middle of putting a 5 speed in my 61 series 12ht (was auto).

Im putting a 75 series 5 speed in from a 2h ute.

My question is....Can i just block the vaccum lines that went to the auto to engage/disengage the transfer as the 75 boxs arent vaccum operated.

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.

block the lines and disconnect the button. Can't think of a reason not to.

Keep the solenoids , don't chuck them away!!, one is the same as the shut off for the flap/butterfly when you turn your cruiser off. (is just under where the cross over pipe from the turbo goes into the manifold, has a vacuum diaphragm on it, faces the front) The solenoids can be hard to find and expensive, and if the shut off one goes it pays to have a spare.

the other thing is I have been lead to believe that the auto transfer cases have a better low range gearing, so may pay to change that over into your 75 series case.

vaccum lines

Yeah i cant see a problem with blocking them.

The g/box has its own vaccum pump, so i think that rules out the vacuum pump on the alternator. the 12ht are all vacuum operated compared to the 2h.

The fuel pump is vaccum operated compared to the edic set up on 2h.

Yes, mine was vacc auto, converted it to manual and I used a 5 speed that had a vacc auto transfercase but I converted it to manual shift. I had to get the shift fork from a standard t/case, and drill out a detent hole and that was it. I used it as it had the larger idler shaft.

Sorry, missed the last part asking if the auto transfer bolts to the manual. I don't think they do, but the internals are the same with the exception of the low range gear which i believe is lower in the auto than the manual

Auto transfer should have a 2.3 ratio low range, manual should be 1.9 ratio low range. This varies with years etc though.

I am putting auto low range gears into my manual case. The transfer cases are pretty much the same.

Sounds like ill be pulling the auto transfer apart on the weekend!!!

The auto did have a heaps better low than my last 5 speed. Even running 37's with the auto was lower than 35's in the manual cruiser i had.
