Coil conversion to 79series rear
Just chasing some info to do a coil conversion to the rear of a 79 series landcruiser ute. I have brought a rear diff housing out of 105 landcruiser. Just wondering how many people have done this, any problems they may have had along the way, and what they would do different, and how well it all worked. Any info is apreciated. Thanks Mick.

2005 HDJ79 so td6. If you are looking for ride quality you can remove a number of leaves and fit black bellows air bags. Won't give you the articulation though. It's a mod we do a lot on vehicles that have major weight changes as the rid ecan be maintained at light and heavy loads.

From memory there is about 130mm difference between the 79 and 105. I am running the 105 in the rear of my 79 with spacers but I have widened my front diff 170mm to put me in the same ruts as a GU. A handy man like youself would find it easier to build your own crossmember, coil hats, arm mounts etc. rather than rape a chassis. If you are going to go to this extreme it may be easier to stay with the 79 diff and coil it.
A few other gremlins are;
- you will have to add sway bar mounts to chassis (the 79RV diffs already have the sway bar mounts on them but I don't know what sway bar fits them)
- 100 series pumkin offset is different
- 100 series park brake cable mounts/adjusts different, the 79's cable will need to be extended
The best option would be to cut the 100.........

I would have to convince the wife to part with the 100. So I think it would be easier to do the coil conversion on the 79 useing a swiss army knife and some fencing wire and some jumper cables for the welding.ADM01 wrote:Mick,
