bash plates for under carriage pretection

i have got a nissan GQ ST 1988
and i found theres no bash plats for under neath,

like i can get a hold of 5mm steel plating from work but im not sure as to where they should be put under neath the nissan
just a basic idea would be good

do you recon you really need it? would be fairly heavy and make it harder to clean.

but if you were to put it on. under the gear box is probably the only place you need it. and under your tank if its low and vulnerable.

half and half just i took the 4x4 out on saturday up yarra vally in vic
bit of crap were hitting the under neath so yeah
fuel tank is fine is up fairly high and has a protection plat on it
so yeah thanx anyways

no worries mate. i havent really had a good look under a nissan coz the only time i was under there all i was doing was repairing a panhard rod.

*cough* twice *cough*

just have a look under there and see any things that could get damaged and put something on it.

3MM should be ok and lighter too. Sump, gearbox and transfer case could do with some protection if your going to play with the rocks ($$$ if you break them). Oh and faster is not better in the rocks

i wasnt toooo sure as to thickness of the plates

also do i need to worrie about 1 at the front on the motor ? like my old jackarooo used to or what

I built a plate for the frount of my old (98) lux that took a lot of beating, due to lack of articulation :oops:

out of 5mm ally checkerplate, It worked well and wasn't to heavy, the factory bit was 1mm light steel.

It depends on your style of driving and what terrain you intend to drive. I have a 6mm mild steel bash plate under my transfer as a temporary item until I either gusset it or upgrade to a beefier item. Anything less will mearly be a "deflector" rather that a true structural item.

Mine is similare to beebee's and only covers the transfer case but it only hangs down slightly from my chassie rails.

Ummm it's similar but not

Mine is shaped like an upside down --^-- with the plate streaching from one chassis rail to another.

Not a nissan, but might help you with ideas.
This is from a jeep TJ.
It has been cut down a fair bit from this to lighten it up

Definately worth it, may not have helped me much with how hard I hit but, It actually squashed right up onto the Transfer case when attempting a big step up...

I had to pull it back down with a big bar, but I don't know if it wasn't there, may have done other damage, not too sure...
