1hdfte conversion into 3L GU
1hdfte conversion into 3L GU
Hey guys my question is who has done the 1hdfte motor conversion into a GU patrol. Wats involved in it. Is it something that you would take on personally. or send it to a shop. (Very costly).
I no there was a guy on the patrol forum but i cant find his thread.
Im really trying to some up a TD42T or 1hdfte. It is a 3L hand grenade at the moment 2004 model STL.
I have spoken to a few people, everyone reckons go the 1hdfte.
And some info as in how much individual items will cost.
And who i can send it to if i choose to go down that path. Ilive on the north side of Brisbane
Any info will be most appreciated. No smart ass comments.
Cheers, Shane

Whilst your spending how about trying the 1VD-FTV
Yes its a 100, but surely the Patrol could swallow that engine too.

Nissan engine conversion...
Hi mate,
I know that Total Care 4wd in Seven hills in Sydney have done several 3lt-4.2 Toyota and 4.2Nissan conversions. They do the Toyota conversion complete with the 5 speed auto gearbox and water to air intercooler aswell as 3" exhaust and ecu chip if you want it. I have driven one and it is very impressive. Contact Jason on 02-98389779. Good luck.
rgds Keith..

"The wiring loom: The 70-series engine has a large and complex wiring loom, electric throttle and immobiliser. It integrates with the ECM and other related computers. While it may be possible for an auto electrician to build a loom for the conversion, the easiest way is undoubtedly to integrate the 70's existing loom into the 100-series. Note that there are many vital 'modules' attached to the loom, which are required. Eg: the injector controllers and immobiliser computer/amplifier"
Thats a downer.
Just spoke to Jason about the 1hdfte coversion. Looking around the 25grand mark.
TD42T is around the 14 Grand
Its getting pretty expensive. I think new 3L in and sell it. That sucks. But i just got layed off work so everything just backfired big time.
Thanks for the info fella's

0ther than adapting the motor to the box it would be no harder than putting one in an 80 or 100.
i think it would be worth it too
25 k is outragous. so is 14k for a td42 swap there is a few guys in brisbane doing them for under 10k........... you can buy a whole written off turbo wagon for 4-6k gives you everthing you need

I did it for $3000 total and that was with a new radiator.
Although I did ALL the work myself in the garage, its not exactly
a groundbreaking modification, I'm not a mechanic but it all went
really well.
I took me around 50 odd hours, so I estimate if I had paid someone
$100 dollars and hour for labour the total would have only been $8000.
$14,000 seems a bit steep.

I thought those prices were a bit wild but everyone seems to be over 12 grand. The motor has to be a TD42Ti so i've been told. The motor is the main cost.

But you know how many hrs it takes.. Some maynot, and they would throw a few hours on for good measure incase shit goes wrong, and they have overheads to paychpd80 wrote:I did it for $3000 total and that was with a new radiator.

I was quoted 23k drive in/drive out for the Chev Diesel + Auto conversion years back.
The Duramax Diesel Heath said round 25k with 6sp alison auto.. now THAT would be fawkin awesome.
Yeah mate,
$2200 for the motor second hand (thanks "ludacris")
$495 for the radiator (which I needed anyway if I kept the petrol)
$180 diesel flywheel
$50 diesel bellhousing
a few more dollars for filters, hoses, etc.
I already had an engine crane and re-used the heavy duty petrol
clutch from the TB42,
I then sold my TB42 with turbo on here for $2900.
I am VERY happy with the outcome now. Its really not that hard
to do it yourself if you have a bit of a clue with tools, and I am definately
not a mechanic.
Do your research on the stuff your not sure on, take your time and go for it.
And I did it in a single lock up garage as well.
If I did it again I reckon I could do it maybe 30-40 hours now that I wouldnt have to come in and google some of the things I wasnt sure about.
Cheers mate

hahahaha yeah my bad, I should have made that more clear.
The 1hd-fte is an awesome motor but EXPENSIVE if you can even find one. And I really think trying to mate up the Toyota to Nissan thing will be costing you heaps more.
Why dont you go a late model TD42 Turbo, easier to make work and you wont have the electronics of the 1hd-fte.
Just a thought.

Trying to find a TD42T for a reasonable price is the hard thing there over 5 grand for starters. Buying a wreck would be the way to go.
