Front Hubs in Hilux/4Runner Oil Or Grease ???

Post by Bazz107 »

Hi,

Im Currently looking into the cause of a bad scream in my front Diff, I think it may be the bearing or the Swivel, as it makes no difference when you engage 4x4. first was wondering in the hub and bearing should it be like really greasy or really oily. As when I pulled apart it was like thick runny grease and im thinking it should be like grease not like thick oil. Also If anyone has any hints to what the problem could be please let me know, Ohh it is a Solid axle 84 model.

thanks

the diff center should have oil in it, and the hubs and cvs etc should be packed with grease

yeah the seal on the axle could be damaged allowing oil to get into the hub, or igf you have been doing lots of water crossing and wet work you have got water in the hubs and its mixed with the grease

When water gets in the grease normals goes a white colour as for your problen check out your wheel bearings they may be stuffed if they have got water or mud in them. also itcoud be mud and small stones court around the brakes and hubs making the screming noise.

Thanks Guys,

Looks like the Diff Seal Blew out, Have pulled all apart, there was Pitting in some of the bearings, and seems the oil from the diff was leaking into hubs there for creating great think crappy grease stuff in hubs, getting new bearings and seals and re packing with grease. thanks for all the help
