Gday all.
I drive a 2003 gu with a 3.0L I recently blocked the EGR pipe and while I had it off the inlet manifold I noticed quite a bit of built up soot which is understandable but it made me want to take it off and clean it all out to allow better flow into the chamber, I might have to take the head off to I don't know yet.
Has anyone else done this to there's and can anyone tell me if it is crazy hard or not?
your comments would be helpful.

CLEANING INLET MANIFOLD ON A 3.0L?
If you have blocked the EGR, have you fitted pyrometer and/or boost gauge? If not, do so ASAP. For more questions on the ZD30, go to patrol4x4.com/forum, there's HEAPS of info, including a HUGE document on preserving the ZD30.
Have you also cleaned all the turbo plumbing? DO that if you haven't alos. I haven't heard of anyone cleaning the inside of the inlet manifold, but it can't hurt I suppose. I don't know WHY you would want to take off the head though??????

the egr INCREASES egt's, blocking it decreases egt's.MyGQ wrote:Having the EGR is supposed to (note the word supposed to) help requce the EGT for some reason according to the Gregories book and Nissan as well as part of the emission system
use egt and boost gauges to keep track of what the engine and in particular what the turbo is doing. especially if its not adjusted correctly after blocking the EGR.How does blocking the EGR valve warrant the need for checking exhaust temps mate?
cleaning, yes you can pull inlet manifold off, cleaning head is not really all that practical without pulling the head off.
the other way is to hook up a water injection system and use that for a month. that cleans out all the crap including whats in side the cylinder and pistons.
Thanks for all your replys everyone.
I have done it,the inlet manifold was pretty gunked up with carbony oily stuff so I feel much better having cleaned it. The throtle body also needed cleaning it was quite dirty from egr blow back. I didn't take off the head but just cleaned the ports that the egr had been going through.
all in all the job wasn't that hard you just have to take your time and marke anything that you think you may have trouble remembering where it came from.
I can notice a slight improvement in power but not as much as the gains from blocking the egr in the first place.
Egts are up a little on the highway but down around town they aren't dangerously high anyway. I have a DP chip and 3" exhaust and I just turned up the DP chip to 7 to see the difference in egts.they were up on the highway but the power increase is good.
