CQ chassis help!

Post by Dabbott »

Hey all,

I posted a wanted ad in the wanted section for a Gq roller chassis,
I have a bloke thats got one, just curious as i have seen somewhere that the 2.8 diesel chassis engine mount location may be different to the 4.2's????

Reason i ask is that i am getting a chassis to replace the leaf sprung chassis in my ute.
Just want to make sure i am not going to run into any problems!

Thanks

Move the mount before fitting the rest of the vehicle to it. Just measure it off the other one.

I am unsure if it is a 2.8 chassis. i was just asking the question.
If worst comes to worst i will,

But its just a long way to go to get it, and a lot of $$$ to find out its wrong!

I have a swb that has had a chassis replaced by creative conversions. It has had the LHS engine mount moved and wheel base shortened. I'm assuming it was a 2.8 chassis. The previous owner said the original chassis broke the upper trail arm cross member out and a swb chassis was not available to replace it.

Its not a big job to move the engine mount, but a good condition chassis can be hard to find at times.

all mq/mks chassis are different with regards to engine mounting points between the different engines, not 100% sure if its the same with the gq model
maybe before handing over the $$$ slip down the local wreckers and measure a few and see wat the difference is

are the engine mounts 2 or 4 bolt? get the guy to measure where they are, also check the gearbox crossmember. if its a roller have a look at the diffs, if they have the small pinnion flanges and 4.3 or 4.6 ratios its a 2.8/3litre

yes the 2.8 and 4.2 are different engine mount positions one RHS. if putting a 4.2 into a 2.8 chassis the rhs mount has to be moved backwards but not totally sure how much. in the middle of doing this swap currently. we also have a rolling 4.2 cab and chassis 4 sale. rusted rear 1/4s and 1/4 windows but chassis good but missing the rhs mount as on the other chassis
