auto
Yes, the carby vitara comes with a three speed auto - it's a trimatic, so whilst it's only three speed and pretty low tech, they are tough as nails and cheap to rebuild/strengthen.
The 4 speed AW-4 auto only came behind the EFI motor. It will physically bolt up to the carby motor but will require some wiring to get it to shift manually, or some other trickery to get it to shift automatically.
The Trimatic is about 80mm or so longer than the sierra manual, so it can fit with the transfer in the stock position with an acceptable jackshaft. I've been involved with two cars built this way.
The AW-4 is about 140mm longer than the trimatic from memory, and AFAIK it's not possible to run a decent length jackshaft with the transfer in the stock spot - you'll want to move the transfer back - not a problem in a LWB but marginal in a SWB.
Steve.
