Magellan FX324 boating / marine application

Post by Hobzee »

This coming weekend I am doing a night yacht race in Gipplsand Lakes (Marlay Point) - A bit like a Pajero Challenge or Pursuit but on water. Starts at about 10pm close to Sale and finishes at Paynesville about Breaky time. Anyway I have fitted the FX324 to the boat and am going to bread crumb the course backwards on Friday and mark the beacons and channel markers as waypoints as I go. Bearing in mind it will be dark when we race and so I have to follow posts in the water that dont have lights, fun huh!
Anyway, the FX324 map using Discover Aus is a bit too basic for my liking. Surely there is an alternative s'ware we can load on SD card for FX324 that has water depths, channel markers, etc. Given I stick with what I own (FX324) has anyone tried them in a marine application? After all that's what they were first built for...
