MQ Patrol not starting.

Post by mqharko »

After driving through water/mud over the weekend my car conked out through a water crossing. It would not start from then on. I assume that the starter motor has got a gutful of water, or some sort of electronics have been flooded because i highly doubt any water got into the engine. The motor will crank really slowly when i turn the key. Any suggestions?

post more info

petrol / diesel ?

how deep was the water /mud etc ?

what have you attempted to rectify so far ?

the more info you supply the smaller the field of fixes becomes, at the moment it could be one of a dozen things.

Diesel motor. Water was probably up to my flares highest probably lower. When i drove through the water my car immediately stopped, almost as if the key was turned off. From then on she will not start.

The starter might not be cranking over fast enough to start, i think there is a oil cut out to the motor if the motor runs out of oil ( the wire might have been knocked off) have you tryed to tow start (just remember to glow first) might be a idea to pull the glow plugs and just check for water.

can you explain the oil cut out to the motor a bit more? Would that mean that the starter motor isnt cranking enough (because of lack of oil) therefore it wont kick over? Also, any idea where i would find the glow plugs on the engine. I couldn't seem to find them anywhere. I will try clutch starting from a tow and see what happens.

The glow plugs are on the side of the motor just below the injectors and start between injector pump and motor heading toward the back of the motor (they have a wire running along them.
the oil switch is just back from the oil filter, motor will crank normaly and should start with it disconnected but will just cut out after a few seconds if it gets no oil.

by the sounds of it you may have got a gut load of water in the motor, Are or where your air filters wet at all???? That would be a start,
take your glow plugs out and try to crank it it over, see if any water comes out.

if it cranks slowley it maybe a bend rod, please correct me if i'm wrong.

it could be busted starter motor or low battery
