Cruise control GU patrol

Post by vanbox »

Is it possible to use any steering wheel mounted cruise control unit on a GU patrol? Has anyone ever done, and what have you used?

Just looking on ebay, and the falcon/commodore buttons look like they would come close. Something like this..

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/EF-EL-AU-XR6-XR8 ... 981wt_1165

Are these modules able to work with any motor? Or would they require the computer (and associated wiring, motor) to work?

What are your thoughts and options?

cheers

I have factory optioned cruise control on my 06 gu ute with a td42. Works ok, its a little bit jerky when it kicks on and off but it does the job. Does anyone else make a vehicle specific kit for them? I don't think you could just adapt any old kit.

is that steering wheel mounted? Or another stick?

If its the wheel mounted buttons, i would be interested. but like anything Nissan, its probably ridiculously expensive!

Steering wheel mounted mate. Ever since I fitted 35s and a
Mark's speedo matchbox the cruise control seems to get confused i.e it will make the engine accelerate hard, then it backs off the power when it reaches the desired speed, then the car slows down and it has to power on again to get back to speed. Not sure if its the extra inertia required to turn 35s that's confusing it or the speedo matchbox is causing problems?

its a lot more then just the buttons, you will need a cruise control model, actuators and alot of other bits and then you will need to get it all to talk to the patrol, which will be impossible, your best bet would be sound in motion or someone similar and buy a non genuine kit, you can get them with steering wheel buttons.

command ap500 should do the trick. just installed one in my gq td42 - wouldnt be without it now. command will have something to suit all vehicles. i got mine with a factory style stork switch but can also get infra-red steering wheel set up, touch pad etc..

There was an aftermarket cruise control fitted to my GU when I bought it. 3 buttons on a small wireless unit in the hole on the right hand side of the steering wheel. It sends to a small infrared "button"on the dashboard. Very useful unit. Works great, but I could not tell you what brand it is.

i ended up with just a cheapo cruise control unit from super cheap on my GU. works well. one thing i was keen on doin was getting a steering wheel off a nissan maxima? i think. (there was heaps of them at pickapart) anyways it had the buttons built in and the nissan badge and was i little sportier looking than the big old patrol one. figured it wouldnt be too hard to wire it into my cruise unit. never got around to it anyhow.

a lot of the steering wheel buttons use the single horn wire, sending different pulses for different functions, so the maxima wheel may not work with the aftermarket cruise.
