GQ SWB KING SHOCKS 3/4'' Lift
GQ SWB KING SHOCKS 3/4'' Lift
Hi Guys. This is not a question about fabrication but one regarding what to look for when searching for a King Shock 2.5" Bypass (3) Piggyback to suit a 3" to 4" lift on SWB GQ patrol for a front application. I'm wanting to know what the propper lengths, travel etc to look for. Regarding the back, I need to know the same specs as mentioned above using a 2.5" smoothie with reservior King Shock. Feed back will be so helpful and appreciated. Cheers Guys
With standard suspension arms 12 inch for the rear and 10 inch for the front. You can put 12inch on the front, space will get a bit tight round the master cylinder and you will be wearing out the steering linkages fairly quickly. Other option remove your exsisting shocks flex the car as far as it will go measure the gaps work out how much travel you need.
This however is my opinion there are other people out there that will tell you can run longer.
I'm running 12inch king coil overs on the rear of mine, the ride is awsome it flexs a long way. I will be tubing the guards as the tyres are rubbing on the guards. Got some 10inch coil overs to go into the front as soon as I get time.
You also need to think about valving, are you going to do it yourself or get someone else to do it for you ?

Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

Cheers Feral, the info you posted was most interesting and has given me slight input as to which direction to head in before I put pen to paper. As for your RIG mate, cant wait to see that finished. I'm sure it'll turn alot of heads and break a few necks. Regarding your post reply and the standard arms factor as you mentioned, will the upgrade of ARMS to suit the 3''/4'' lift throughout illiminate most if not all steering issues with wear and tear'?
I would just like to ad to A Feral's reply.( not disagreeing at all)
The Proper way to set your truck up is to have the coils fitted to the truck , measure the full compression, maximum drop , ride height ect , this determine's your shock size ( coils, tires, guards and clearances detemine this )
Doing it properly will also allow you to set up your bumstops correctly as well.
You can get approx sizes as previously stated but if you are going to spend the money on the upper market shocks spend the time and do it properly.
Their are so many coil options now with a massive difference in free height , rates ect , even different offset rims will make a difference in scrub radius that could detemine your compression height.
Another factor is your shock mounts if they have been moved or changed in height or configuation.
The winch challenge trucks we sponsor have generally used 10 and 12's but that does not mean they would suit your application.
Hope that helped a bit more as well.
