I run injector cleaner thru mine every tank. With rd tyres on (same size as when I brought the car) I get about 12L/100km (mainly HWY) which is the same as what it was when it only had 270 000km on the clock.
Gets worse when I put the 35's on.
You havnt done any mods in that time have you., like tyres or lift the crap out of it.

heh? 400 kms! thats shocking. I get that out of the TB42 plus, mainly around 450. Guys I know are getting 700-800 out of a tank on a TD42. Something is wrong there, somewhere. Of course if its down on compression it can drink more fuel, or the pump is not right, or injectors or air cleaner blocked.
good luck with it
good luck with it
I used to get 550-600km to and from work and 1000km plus on a road trip to say Brizzy.
That was 1990 GQ TD42, extractors, 4.3 diffs, 35" BFG Muds, 5 speed, 95L Tank, 2 " Springs 4" Body lift.
Mind you I once put 98L into my 95L tank

today, i got 420k's and put in 65L's and that filled it to the very brim of the filler neck,
im running 33's, 6" lift, 4.1's K&N Air filter,
Bazzle, How will a new fuel filter help me? If i were to change it this would give less restriction allowing even more fuel to pass through? am i right, or is there another reason?

In my GU Ute (6" lift, 2" body lift, 35's, 4.6s, etc) I've averaged about 13.8 litres per 100 kms over the 95,000 kms that I've done. I live in the country so the majority of that is "country miles" but I don't think I've ever seen my fuel reports (ute is leased through work) climb about about 14.5lt / 100kms.
I'm not very good looking, so I guess I better be useful . . .

Location: Adelaide.... The only place you dont wanna be with a 4x4....
Contact:
33's, 4.11 ratio, lwb, td42 non turbo, manual.......
I get 12.8 - 13.2 l/per 100km no matter whether i am city or country...
I just did 1435kms and used 187litres = 13 l/per 100km....
I sit on 95kmh in 5th gear and anything under 85kmh i sit in 4th...
The above consumption was leaving Adelaide and going to Grampians and driving dirt tracks all day and then back through little desert tracks for ½ the day and next day back through the border track and home again...

WELL mine gets 600k's to a tank (takes about 80-85lt to fill) it has 2" lift after market turbo, oh and did i mention it uses 1lt of oil at the same time.
I rekon it's the extra oil injection that makes her run soooooo smooth .
Yes i do know it is FUKED

Nort sure but for some reason a blocked or suspect filter can increase black smoke. So I alwyas change filter to eliminate that..

at 15-16 ltrs per 100kms you r still gettin approx 6.5 kms per ltr which should be better I would have thought for a diesel, although mine was a turbo diesel MK. Mate of mine runs 17 psi on the turbo (has done for 4 years) and get about 7kms per ltr with 35's and 4.3 difs. But its better than the TB42 petrol - the best i get is about 5 - 5.5kms per ltr. I HOPE the diesel will be better as one in goin in shortly. A rering and a service on the is all it may need, if thats what its needs. Good Luck with it
Fuel Useage
My 2c worth: 4.2D with afrermarket turbo, 7inch lift, 35s, + extras. Weighs 2,350kg and has 335,000k on the clock. My speedo is corrected so my distance readings are accurate for the tyre size.
My average fuel use is around 12 to 12.5 L per 100k. Has gon as low as 11 L/100 if the speed is kept to less than 100kph. Worst for any real distance is up around 15 or 16 L/100 on sand etc. I think it is pretty economical considering its weight and aerodynamics of an oversized brick.

As soon as it was made idiot proof, someone went and designed a better idiot.
Well I just worked out mine (turbo intercooled @13psi diesel)and got about 530 from 70litres so 13.2/100 or so.
That is with 35's and a big canopy that sits up about 300mm above and to the sides of the cabin and also has racks on top of this!!! And this thing is fucken heavy including dual batt. + winch side bars etc etc
Was various driving but most of it quite hard including a dyno run and couple of highway at 130+kph.
I think if I didn't drive it in anger it would get a bit more k/litre for sure.
Cheers

Okay, back from TSV with some data as promised, Mav wagon, 33's, natural asthmatic, factory exhaust manifold, factory exhaust system, KN primary, finer filter secondary, Safari snorkel, 210,000, 4.111's, average fuel consumption was 11.5L/100km, this includes conversion factor of 12% for tyre increase. Best was 11.3 in the cool hours of the morning over 200km test range.
Built, not bought.
