Hi guy's

I'm sure this question has been asked before, my appologies if so :roll:

My brother has just bought a 93 1.6 feroza, on the way home from getting it, the exhaust maniflold gasket started to leak.
He is keen to fit extractors for a bit of extra go and a better exhaust note, he also plans on fitting a 2'' exhaust.

So what do you guy's think of extractors on feroza's? are they worth the money?
Also where is the best place to get them from, and roughly how much do you think they will cost??

I had wanted a set after I found lots of cracks in the stock manifold but after pricing them up at $300+ supply only they got put waaaay-down the to-do list.

Then I picked up a cheap set off here secondhand - bundled with a pod filter (lots of onroad driving for me) they added a fair bit of power and sound great. Mine is an 89 so I need to hunt up the later "black box" for low-mid torque increase - so if anyone has one spare, I'm buyin!

Power gain is minimal... couldn't measure on the chassis dyno with any certainy but around 1.5kW.... on a stock engine. Greater gain on a HD-EG - around 4kW but its much "peakier", which means its not a clear cut winner. Sounds better though :cool:

Standard manifolds have a habit of cracking badly so compared with a factory replacement ( if you can even get.... ) its a real option.

Black boxes help - not really a power thing but add to the mid range torque so worth having.

Remember nothing you do simply to a 1.6 engine is going to make amazing differences.... short of jacking up the radiator cap.............

The gain in driveability is well worth the time/ money fitting them (forget about peak power gains!)

I'd leave the remainder of the exhast stock too- unless you like revving it hard??? Mine was best for driveability set up like that, it lost low rev torque after I did the rear section in 2".

PS: use the search function and check the FAQ thread - there is a LOT of info on extractors/ headers on here.

So true Murcod. I have 2" on mine and driven a stock exhaust system and noticed more torque in the stock system :roll:

i found if u have extractors pod filter and rip the cat out it makes a differnce u will notice

I have extractors. It definitely sounds better. The thought
that you probably have an increase in power also makes
you feel better. :)

When you say "Black Box" i take it you are talking ECU?? so for an 89 model i would be looking for a .........................................?

No, the black box I am referring to is on top of the engine and part of the intake tubing, like an external plenum chamber, and was fitted to mid/late Ferozas - mine is an early one, so I missed out.

Extractors were probably the best thing I did on my old Ferwoaza. They were the MRT jobbie and matched with the rampod air filter. They sounded awesome (god I hated that whistle), gave it a heap more punch as well. If you've got the dosh, just do it, however if I had my time again, I wouldn't go the rampod air filter, I'd go a custom snorkle instead.

I'm 99% sure the air filter getting dirt and crap and mud and shit in it was the cause of my engine failure after 200k's. And that was a $4500 rebuild! Got rid of it 2 months later when the gearbox went..
