Just wondering if it was possible to run a triple battery set up.
I currently have two hcd batteries under the bonnet which can apparently be run in parrallel for winching etc. But I want to run a fridge off a deep cycle battery. I can mount it somewhere in or under the tray.
It currently runs a rotronics set up of some sort. Yet to find out what runs off what!
What I was wondering is if I have to make alterations to alternators etc to do this. Plus all the other things is it worth doing.
OR should I just replace one of the hcd batteries in the engine bay with a deep cycle one. Do I need three batteries???
What are the pro's and cons here?

TRI BATTERY SET UP

One con - too many batteries whereas you can simplify it and use 2 optima batteries.. they are rated 1000cca each. Could get a pair of em for the cost of a triple battery setup and still have heaps of power for a winch on ONE battery whilst runnin the 2nd battery on startin and ancillaries???

I am not sure hcd batteries really like fridges to be running off em.
I will have to take the truck to an auto sparky to find out what is running off what battery and make a decision from there.
If all the accessories ie. cd, uhf etc are running off one battery(I can only hope!) it may be best to swap this one for a deep cycle and get rid of the switch to run the two in parralel (cause you cant run hcd and deep cycle in parralel) The winch can run off the starting battery and everything else off the deep cycle. If starting batt. goes flat then just start with deep cycle one.

My tripple setup (linked above) wasn't actually very expensive.
I picked up two new batteries from Bias Boating for $99 each (Note that these batteries are not deep cycle, but suit my purpose). They are 15 plate 600 (or 640) cca with around about 90amp hours in each. The Red-Arc CP12V isolator was around about $150 at the time, and about $30-40 in wiring from Jaycar.
So around $390 its setup. Its been this way for a while now and seems to work fine.
If you can carry the weight, and the batteries are being mounted externally from the cab (because the batteries are not sealed) then this setup works fine.
Its a 'tight-arse' method thats worked for me.

I just run my two rear batteries under the tray in parallel with an ignition switched solenoid seperating them from the front battery, I then rewired nearly everything other than the starter motor & ignition to the rear batteries.
