loss of torque
loss of torque
hey guys need some help.
got a new baleno conversion done and new exhaust (extractors, cat, sports muffler, 2.25inch pipe all the way) Toyota diffs sierra 5 speed, series 4 reduction gears, 32 simexs on yota diffs, sierra fuel tank, high pressure pump (maybe VL commo not sure)
now that I have given the brief of the car i am having what I feel is very little torque. in almost any gear unless it is sitting over 3500rpm it almost feels like the motor is over fueling and I start going backwards.
Recently replaced (in the last two weeks) spark plugs, fuel filter.
any thoughts..

Check your coolant temp sensor. If the ECU thinks the motor is cold it will richen the mixture up, causeing carp performance and sluggish repsonse. Does it blow smoke? Hows your fuel economy?

does anyone know of someone in Sydney that will be able to put the computer on a diagnostics machine.
fuel gauge does not work properly and first time it has been mobile in months.
No dizzy.
no surge tank, i would say the injectors are regulating. I am not a mechanic so I don’t have all the answers that’s why I am on here.

The fuel rail may have an inbuilt fuel pressure regulator but if it doesn't the pump is pumping at what ever pressure it can which isn't good as most fuel systems need to run at a certain fuel pressure. Depending on where your fuel pump is it may not be sucking in fuel the whole time which is why you may need a surge tank or put the pump in the tank.
More Suzuki parts going to the big Suzuki Heaven in the sky!
The pump is just an inline pump sitting on the chassis rail with the filter sitting between the pump and tank.
The fuel pump has a built pressure switch as I can hear it pressurise and then turn off.
I will take another pic tonight after work.
Also does anyone know how or have a link to a wiring diagram to add a tacho to one of these bad boys as the old 83 sierra does not have one and if it was a crank fire motor I would not have a problem.

I used the Twin coil Baleno cluster/gauges. As the sierra tacho will not work with twin coils. But you don't have an original one anyways.
Wiring is pretty simple. Signal from the ecu(Plug location A5) Unsure colour, then get a power and a earth from somewhere.

Your dash is different though.
The Baleno motor has a rev cutout/limiter from the ecu. So overreving is nothing to worry about. (i set my gauge by the boucing!)
With the torque problem, I have had a problem with the TPS. I swapped it with another. On freeways or anywhere, it used to cut out, then comeback to life.. Took a while to work it out... try doing 110 in the right lane then the motor cuts out...

G16B is the 1.6 As you have.prontozuk wrote:I am not 100% sure wich baleno motor it is either 1.6 or the 1.8. On the old vitara motors the ccs were noted on the side of the block in big numbers. How can I tell beside the engine number as currently that is blocked by the new exhaust.
J18 is the 1.8. Completely different motor.
I have also seen a Baleno with a Single cam head G13B twin coilpack.

There is no such thing as a G18. G16 is the biggest G series motor suzuki built ever.prontozuk wrote:What about the G18. The guy who fitted swore black and blue that it is a 1.8.
Baleno's also came out with a J18. Completely different block, head, everything. have a search..
You can also get a M18a from a liana etc. Again, completely different.

Get a torch, and have a look at the engine number behind the extractors.
The guy is lieing to you. He should be black and blue.

I had a look at the wikipedia but it is not always correct. Here is extract from a service manual (not sure which service manual maybe US as it mention sidekicks and samurais.) halfway down page 4.

There is no G18, only a J18 or M18. The J18 is the little brother to the J20, J23 and J24. Don't believe everytthing you read in some parts manuals as they are notoriously wrong quite often e.g Item 5 on page 3 The years are completely wrongprontozuk wrote:I had a look at the wikipedia but it is not always correct. You have a G16B. What else do you need to know?prontozuk wrote:Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr i did not want to rip off the exhaust to read it.. bloody hell ... rrr..
might try an manipulate the inspection mirror abit more...

no it was my car that I had someone put a new motor in, and they swore black and blue it was a 1.8 so I was going to organize another engineers slip but now I only have to get a blue slip as the motor that is was engineered with was a G16A
This weekend we will being replacings oil filter and oil the oil is a little black, and air filter.

Did you check this? sounds like it makes sense with what you have going on.Fuel ecomony is about 20L/100. It almost feels like the chock is always on.
x2 on the vl fuel pump not liking to suck. put the filter post pump and make sure the fuel pump is similar height to the pick up point in the tank so its not having to lift fuel pre pump, as they push fuel rather than pull it if that makes any sense. but I doubt this is the issue as i would have thought it would be ok at low revs and not cope with higher revs if this was your issue.
good luck.
