Weird Patrol electrical problem

Post by Bates »

Bear with me while I explain what's going on with a 99 4.5 GU.

Two months ago the alternator left and went to a better place and I had to get the car towed home. There wasn't even enough power left in the batteries to run the clock. I replaced the alternator witha spare one I had that night.

Immediately after installing it, the brake switch shorted out and took a lot of wiring with it at the fuse box, and the battery as well. All fixed by an autoelec for $800.... The alternator was bench tested etc with no worries. Everything seemed okay.

This week smoke started coming out of the right corner of the dash. Took it to a different autoelec but they couldn't find the cause of the smoke.

Since the smoke appeared the interior light fuse keeps blowing. Also the blinkers have been blinking fast like the globe in the bullbar is gone. Finally got around to replacing it today. After a lot of mucking around, I found the blinker/parker unit in the bullbar is not earthing. Ran a separate wire to earth it and it's all okay.

Anyone with a better autoelectrical mind see a common link between these issues???

It's driving me nuts!
