Gq 2.8 td snorkel

Post by tna racing »

old man just bought a 1996 rx 2.8turbo diesel patrol. and has come with a snorkel that's not connected.

is there any way you can connect it to the standard airbox. seeing that the inlet holes at the top and facing the bonnet.

or do we have to get the 4.2 airbox?

will post pic tonight

cheers adam

I have a safari snorkle fitted to my 97 2.8lTD GQ. It has a safari filter box as part of the kit because the original filter housing is both moved forward and has different inlet and outlet orientations.

I don't know if the 4.2 filter housing is the go or not. Either way, its a bugger to get the filter in and out of the housing. Whatever you do, try to keep the maintenance access in mind - I have fitted all sorts of 'stuff' too close to the housing and compromised access.
When you do a filter change also, just make sure they give you the correct filter as the GU and GQ are slightly different in length - been caught on this already.

Pretty easy fix....just get a complete ZD 30 airbox out of a GU and fit it up.you will need to grind off the square flange where the airflow meter was fitted ....and a 90 degree rubber bend in 3 inch ...plus a short joiner pipe to join up to turbo intake hose. The inlet of airbox butts up against inner guard with some thick sealing rubber.
This setup also gives a lot better airflow than original ...plus is heaps easier to service. Downside is GU airboxes are not cheap second hand...and can be a bit hard to source.
HTH.

Cheers Keith
