I went to buy a water pump and retured with a 55 series
Well i wanted to buy a 60 series for the 5 speed to put in my truck Bob then wreck the rest out. While at the local auto shop i mentioned this and that conversation has led me to buying 2 x 5 speed 60s, a 350 chev powered 45 and this very tidy for it age 1966 55 series landcruiser.
Almost rust free the only rust worth mentioning is at the bottom of the front guards. It runs realy well blows no smoke and drives. Almost 100% origional down to drumbs all round. No full floating rear diff. 3 speed and get this 1966 and the rear window is electric.
It even still has the origion owners manual in the glove box with the delivery date owners name and service history ad was registered untill 2004.
Now what do i do with it
Cheers Daz

Seeing what you did with your 40, I'm assuming you like your old school trucks.
I say, resto the body and interior to factory spec and paint colour, then........ find a current 70 series ( 76, 78? whatever the new 4door is) at the wreckers or auction and swap the V8 diesel running gear complete with factory lockers under the 55, complete with split rims to give it that factory sleeper look.
Then cruise it as a very capable daily driver/comp truck tow vehicle.

diesel no thanks. I am not a diesel fan sorry. Great suggestion though. I am still way undecided what to do with it. Atm im leaning towards bobbed, sprung over 60 diffs and power steer. Seeing i have a couple of spare 60s laying around.beerdog wrote:Seeing what you did with your 40, I'm assuming you like your old school trucks.

One very crazy thought i have had is to restor the body and trim then sit it on a 2wd hilux chassie as low as possible with white walls etc But i do wonder would it be different or just stupid. It could be done so it is totaly reversable.

stupid i recon. spring over minimum... but i say why deviate from your winning formula? 80 series coils and diffs. and dual cab the bugger.DAZ wrote: diesel no thanks. I am not a diesel fan sorry. always had a soft spot for the 55's. my first parts rig was a 55. if you take a couple of years finishing it, you might have a buyer here by the time your done
you do realise the orange rig in the 3rd pic down (of your "modified 55 series pics") is actually a 60 right?

Your a 4wd enthusiast not a butcher... be kind to it and keep/make it original. In twenty years time you won't be saying.."I'm glad I chopped/bobbed/butchered that great '55 I had back in '10"... you'll be saying... "I wish I kept it original, you never see them these days"..
Show me the money..SHOW ME THE MONEY
have you seen anything else he's built? i wouldn't say "original restoration" is his styleRED60 wrote:Your a 4wd enthusiast not a butcher... be kind to it and keep/make it original. we're not talking about the last GTHO phase 3 here... it's the ugliest cruiser ever built

Im actualy on the look out for a rolling 80 chassie atm . I wont be starting on any new project for a while i have a few other things to do, finish and sell before i start anything else. I do know the orange pic is a 60 i just thought it is cool and i have a couple of 60s laying aroundbad_religion_au wrote:stupid i recon. spring over minimum... but i say why deviate from your winning formula? 80 series coils and diffs. and dual cab the bugger.DAZ wrote: diesel no thanks. If/when i do start on the 55 it will be first cutting out the little rust it has out and making whats there working.
cheers

all true ads but i am reluctant to chop it up all the same. I think what i will do is offer it for sale and if a die hard collector wants to give me some good cash ill put it towards bob. Other wise stay tuned there will be a hard core 4 door build threadbad_religion_au wrote:have you seen anything else he's built? i wouldn't say "original restoration" is his styleRED60 wrote:Your a 4wd enthusiast not a butcher... be kind to it and keep/make it original. The green US 55 looks great to me, can't quite tell what they have done suspension wise but bung in an injected 350 and you will have a winner
