Well i call BS as i worked the gate friday for 10 hrs and never seen anyone charge people what they shouldn,t have but on saturday i witnessed quite a few partons argue the pfrice when in fact they were not reading the web site correctly, then saying we were ripping them off,(not cool) at worse and being honest a few times people recieved the wrong color wrist band but when it was brought to officals attention they reversed the problem with a sorry and a smile not bad service i recon.super jeep wrote:What a great weekend had a ball, just a quick question i heard people were paying in exccess of $280+ for a weekend at tuff truck and it seems they where chargeing at the gate what they like,Dont know if this is true but the people who i talked to felt a bit ripped off.
Anyways great weekend and be back next year

I was around the gate most of the weekend and know most of the people who did the running and I didn't see any of that. The only thing I saw was plenty of people who wanted to pay the pre-paid price at the gate (one bloke even turned around and headed back to sydney).

Hey Mal...congratulations on another podium finish. You would have to be right up there on the list for overall top 3 place-getters for Tuff Truck. Can I ask what was the reason you went back to the Red Label Krawlers from the Iroks? Were you expecting the terrain to suit the BFG's better or was it something else?TD42GU wrote:Holy hell! i think you should have the chrome balls on the back of my car! well i guess we can't please everyone but hey i prefer to brake a $100 bucks of tie rod ends going hard out then a 15k portal axle taking it easy.rustys wrote:
How can breaking some bolts on 1 portal box cost $15 000 that would make the diffs worth $60 000 plus
Garth[/quote]
it doesnt matter what you brake if your going to spend 100.000+ on a rig you would not want every thing to brake. but shit happenes
at the day of the day each driver has there own style but that dosent make one more of a tool for going hard out or taking it easy there all equal in there own rights
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set
I am not having a go at you for having a heavy right foot I love the guys with the point and punch it attitude.
Just wondering how people come up with the $15000 axle bill when the diffs are not worth that much.
From what I heard there were a lot of breakages and it would not be TUFF TRUCK if there weren't. any way I liked your roll ( flip) on the devils marbles.

1) Security are permanently in 4 locations that ARE accessible by spectators.. Front Gate, Ranch Gate, competitors compound at the road end after 6pm. & at the security site shed. All that would have been needed is to go to one of these locations, & ask for assistance. I personally dealt with a few minor dramas myself.Articulator wrote: 1) what atop weekend.A few points from outside the bunting. We paid good money tnis year and were ashoured good security and police pressence when we where harrased on friday night by som pissed 60 yr old calling my 14 yr old son a prick for sitting in freinds wife chair witch she gave to him to sit with her children not content with that he then pours beer over her head went to get security no.one new where they were. strike 1.

3) I agree.
4) Ticket prices were pre-set. Friday $30, Sat $60, Sun $40. she would have been coming in for 2 days.. weather you come in at 10am or 6 pm for a weeked pass. its the same price for that day. There possibly may have been a mix up with some of my staff, but all in all it worked out ok, with minimal problems.

Pete, while you are here mate, Id like to read what you thought of the event.
How did it go from where you were??
Did it meet your expectations??
What are some things that need to be changed for next year??
From the pics and vids that Ive seen and from what Ive read, the standard of driving and vehicles were fantastic.
What was it like seeing your rig out there??

i seen a kid get hit with a can on saturday night and the security was 3 foot away and when asked about it he said he didn t see any thing because he was watching the giant beach ball or what about the security that was next to the generator on friday night that couldn t hear the crowd yelling at him that some idiot had thrown a chair on the track the security was there but they didn t pay enough attention and seemed like they were trying to keep the crowd happy so things wouldn t get out of hand not trying to keep the crowd under control

Thanks to Pete and all of his team for putting on what we felt was the best Tuff Truck yet. From our point of view, everything ran smoothly, with minimal hold ups. Congrats Dan, Mal and Rhett. To drive those tracks clean was a huge effort. Well done.
As for ourselves, we had a pretty good run, but suffered from a couple of breakages, and stuff ups on our part.
Another huge thanks to Matt and Ryan from Snake Racing! The gave us a rear centre out of their buggy, after we stripped the crownwheel at the end of frame twister. And also a big thanks to our support team, who jumped in and helped keep the car going whenever possible.
Bring on TT2011!
Cheers

Team Bright Sparks had a great but eventfull weekend, we managed to break most of our drivetrain and ended up doing repairs after every track
Big thanks to Tony and Steve who not only did a great job of running the competition side of things but went above and beyond for the competitors by taking the time to help track down parts for repairs!!! You guys are the best
A big thanks also to the operators of the Manitus and eskys for carefully recovering my lux on more than one occasion.
A huge thanks to the Kamikaze boys for all your help repairing Lego Lux, we wouldn't have made it through without you and more importantly your encouragement from the sideline
Thanks to Pete my navi for getting us where we did.
Thanks also to my understanding and suportive family and friends, my wife and daughter in particular.
But the biggest thanks goes to Pete for buying and saving Tuff Truck You have done a great job with the event this year and we look forward to seeing what you have instore for the years to come.

For everyones information, team Powerful 4x4 entered the competition to show everyone you can enter a rig into Australia's biggest 4x4 challenge without the $150,000 price tag plus have a awesome fun weekend. With only 6 weeks handed to the team and jsut $15,000 to build the car - the boys did extremly well to GET the rig running and compete in each event. True aussie battler spirit was shown by the team.
The boys driving the rig, were approached many times by the crowd to give them a little excitment - they knew they had no chance to beat the likes of Team Pirate....
In regards to the mic showouts, Powerful 4x4 were a major sponsor of the event. Powerful 4x4 committed quite alot of money to the event. Each and every sponsor got given the same opportunity as Powerful, but didnt take on the opportunity. For example some sponsors didnt even show up!

There have been quite a few cars in the same predicament, Low budget rigs / there to compete but not be "compeditive", this has been the spot that i was in for the past 2 years. And i believe that i was pleasing the crowd and doing my sponsors proud by the tracks i attempted and in the manner that i attempted them.
The comments by the crowd watching were more along the lines of the driver & navi being "idiots" was a term that i heard quote regulary, especially after the performance that was put on at the mud and on the Devils marbles. There are better ways to "Give a Little Excitment" rather than just be silly & breaking the car.. that kinda thing makes the day run slow not just for the team involved but with others that were helping too.
In my oppinion you should probably thank the guys that helped to get the car back on the track rather than the driver or navi.
Miss Lynda :P AKA Barbie :D
I devirginised my self on the weekend and hit the Tuff Truck scene for the first time..
I have to say i was suprised, it was bigger than i thought, the organisation was professional but the competition was not. I was somewhat disappointed at the build quality and level of vehicle there. Now don't get me wrong, i know there are a lot of budget racers and i'm not having a go at any of them but rather the fact that a lot of the competitors have spent good coin on there or done alot of work themselves only to end up with a poorly set up vehicle.
There were a few teams who were constantly attatching straps and pulling on the car to avoid damage and/or rollovers... WTF!.. Some of these cars had good components just not fitted right, four links with rear arms that would converge 20 feet behind the car.. roll centres at about the cyliinder head height etc etc...
There's not too many guys that actually know how to use rear steer to there advantage, most seem to think it's there only to steer the rear wheels with no regards to the physics of the action..
Navi's that steered cars directly into rocks on the diff pumpkin when there were other options etc.
Maybe i expected too much, but alot of the competitors appeared more amature than i thought they would be.
As for powerful, like it or lump it they were the best showmen there and used the crowd to there advantage.. That's good business, good marketing, and money well spent by there sponsors. Sponsorship is a business, not a token gesture. If you want sponsorship ask yourself what you can give your sponsor. Do you think they care for 1st place when someone else who's a better showman steals the lime light?
Well done to Pete and his crew. The security and police presence was nearly perfect. Not too overbearing but they were every where all the time. I'd consider my entry fee money well spent.
Would i go again.. You betcha! i have a big block on forty nines to smash on the B'double with another for trucks... Lime light here i come!

For all those having a go at the Powerfull 4x4 team for going and driving the sh&t out of there car WHY dont you compete next year..... thats what I thought
They went there saying they were going to put a show on for the crowd and you know what they did. They know like most competitors they wont win but are doing it for fun and to compete against mates.
That is what tuff trucks is all about, driving the hardest tracks hard for all watching
