no, they're very different.

umm... wheels, window winders, not much else?
I think the bonnet might swap over, and the rear windows, but mechanically there's not much that is common between the two.

Yea, mechanically theyre pretty much totally different, an MQ rear diff centre can fit a GQ front housing with a little work - this could be handy if you had a mq lsd or locker.
Body wise the bonnet is the same apart from where the hinges bolt on, doors are interchangeable, windscreen is the same.

Basically the mechanichals/chassis are totally different, and the body was a minor update.
Whereas GQ-GU was a totally different body and almost identical mechanicals.
There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots

Both MK's i've owned had two.

GQ front is not centred - drivers side is short side.
nerida67 wrote:mq/mk leaf spring suspension
Some earlier GQ utes were leaf front and rear.

Some earlier GQ's (like mine) have quarter windows.

coxy,
well spotted
i did say SOME gq utes were leaf spring
manufacturers have been known to put older model parts on the newer models
especially regarding commercials or base models
MAYBE the 3 mqs ,2 mks and gq i have here are all wrong
but honestly who could guarantee if anything has been changed in the last 10-25 years
maybe i wont do a general difference list
MAYBE ,u could put one up
itll be nice to see your difference

I'm not having a dig mate, just putting it out there so nobody gets confused.

Its been done once four times on here already (GQ/MK/MQ comparo), and the general concensus was that (as you said), there are lots of recycled parts and parts used from other models, and that there was no "definate" yes or no's with some of the factory options and variations. I think there might have even been a 1993 GQ on here with 1/4 windows IIRC.

So the answer is that if you are looking at it as a possible parts donor, it's only worth it for a couple of body panels nothing else.
This is not legal advice.
