Uni-Mig 170 Welder Package - Good deal or not?
Just opened the mail box and inside is a catalog from Toolies in Sandgate, they are offering a UNIMIG 170A Inverter Stick Welder for $399 with a auto Darkening Helmet.
Good Deal or not???
As for its intended use, im no pro, far from it, so itll just be basic stuff to start with, sliders, rear bar, just real basic sh!t.
This is her: http://www.toolies.com.au/catalogue/Pro ... 7973004126
I know the site says 599, but im pretty sure ive seen them on the shelf there at like $475 every day of the week.
Just checked on the Bay and there selling from anywhere between $315 to $440 or $569 with the TIG kit Inc. So Deal or No Deal???

for what you plan to use it for, and that you are "no pro", it will do the job just fine, and with the mask thrown in, it is a good deal. If you were going to use it full time, on the upper end of the amp range, i would say get a better machine like a fronius, essetti, lincoln, or miller. Also worth adding, if at any stage you want to buy a mig, don't get a unimig, no matter how cheap it is, the slightest fluctuation in power supply to the machine, it will blow.
good luck, hope you enjoy it.

The inverter part is what you will learn to love
I have the Uni-mig 165 MIG Inverter welder and for $1000 I think its a pretty good machine. Comes everything too. And it is rated to do TIG aswell. Total tools have looked after me pretty well too I might ad.
The duty cycle is pretty good: 90-100 amp all day without over heating, and thats heaps for 5mm plate.
