Just curious if any one has some input on the common rail diesels that came out in 07 and onwards.
The old man blew up his 2000 model 3L and is looking at possibly replacing the vehicle with the newer common rail diesel version.
Any feed back as to what people think or have found would be great thanks.

GU 3L common rail diesel
if you read a little more carefully he means that he wants to replace the entire vehicle, not do an engine conversion.
Haven't been around long enough to know for sure if their reliability is really up to scratch yet but they certainly respond very well to a few bolt on mods.
Exhaust, air filter, and a steinbauer chip can yield huge gains for relatively little money outlay. Went for the 2.5" exhaust.
This was a customers car, not mine, but everyone was surprised that it gained so much. From memory it was over 20% power and a bit more in torque.
Plus there are all the little upgrades they've done since the series 1 GU. I would say he'd be happy with the newer GU truck.
Of course, there's always the possibility of him doing a repower on his current vehicle, but many people just aren't interested in the pain and time involved. 6L GM V8, duramax, 6.5 diesel chev, TD42 conversion? Plenty of aftermarket support available for these. Depending on how much he can do himself is the difference between these being financially viable or just too expensive.

We had a customers on loan for a couple of weeks, it was a ute but it got great economy. It should be superior in economy to the older electronic pump due to the more precise injector timing and delivery quantity, add that to the pre injection and other functions of common rail. Average 10-11 kls/l, open road driving.
