I got one, came on here to post but you beat me.

Recall is related to fuel vapour entering the cabin via a faulty fuel evap check valve, and should have been mailed out to every owner of a Registered Daihatsu that is possibly affected, and requires the owner to take their vehicle to the local Daihatsu dealer (Toyota) for the (free) fix.

SCAN OF THE LETTER:

I was like "wow Daihatsu logo...." then "holy crap Daihatsu wrote to me!!" lol

I've got one too.

My only issue is that they haven't listed an authorised repairer in my town.

How many people are actually going to get it done?

Wow! That's just a few years too late.

Mine had that problem when I bought it in around 2002 (when it was ten years old). The only thing is it wasn't the check valve at fault in my case- it was the plastic reservoir tank it fed into that was cracked.

If you haven't received the letter then just give them a ring - I told a guy at work who has a Fez and they just told him to book it in. ;)

although i read that this applied to ferozas built 1990 - 97, i called up the nearest CMI and it turns out that my 88 soft top feroza is effected. they have orderd me a new part. i wonder how many people exploded to warrant this recall 22 years after my feroza was born?

 We print the Nsw Wollongong paper "Illawarra mercury" at work. I saw the recall.. i was like wtf! Daihatsu arn't even in aus anymore!

The recall is from the first 1983 rockys, to the late imported ones and feroza's. They were poo to start with, they are poo now. And 3/4 of them are in wreckers or have been wrecked!

I was shocked, bit late don't you think!

Maybe its a Toyota thing for reliability because of their legal problems....

Whats poo? The car, the brand or? To me, Suzuki's are a poor man's Daihatsu lol. I always seen Daihatsu in the same light as other cheap Japanese car makers - until I bought one (and compared).

The only thing wrong with a Daihatsu is, (and always has been) the lack of aftermarket parts available.

Safety Recall ?

Post by hannivers »

Only prob is before they order part down this way they gotta look at car prior to ordering parts, my 90 EL111, 91 EL111 & 89 DX are all being done, one of them wasn't even registered but that's ok with them, so find a Farm Bomb or Bush Basher and they may fix it too.

Was recall really about when US guy pushed lighter & lit up huge Cigar:

when you book the car in, they normally ask the VIN or chasis number for that vehicle, so they know which part to order

What's involved and where do they have to access?

Post by roza31 »

Wow, just called Grand Toyota on the Gold Coast. They asked for rego and booked me in for tomorrow. Now that's what I call after sales service.

I've converted my roza into a ute with a false bottom and draw setup in the back. Could someone pls advise me if I need to pull this all out first?

Thanks in advance. :)

They'll need to access in behind the rear RHS interior trim panel (where the stock rear speaker is mounted.)

Mine's shot

Post by roza31 »

Toyota dealer didn't have the part in stock  but apparently mine's stuffed so I gotta go back. The desk girl reckons Toyota planned for 15 to 20 ferozas on the gold coast but so far they've had more than 40. Go the Roza.

Maybe they'll realise how many roza's are still hanging around here in Oz and they'll bring back supplies to the abandoned!... doubt it'll happen but we can live in hope!

Re: Safety Recall ?

Post by RoxbyRat »

Im pretty bloody annoyed at this.

Ive had my Frozi 5yrs now. For the first two years there was the raw fuel smell in the cab. I payed out heaps to mechanics to find the issue. Lots of time in the shed I ended up removing and plumbing up a 'filter box' inside the panel above the fill pipe.

When I got the recall notice I went to my local NorthPoint Toyota. They sourced the new checkvalve and I surrended the Frozi to the workshop. That Arvo they rang to tell me my bus didnt have a unit to replace so they canned the job.

To be told `if you can prove the mechanic visits you might be at a chance of getting some reimbursement' was music to my ears. But, Ive never been one to hold on to receipts nor has the mechanic it seems.

Regards,
Fumin`!
