Assuming thats the 4.2 diesel?
Noted as a 1HZ, about 96 kw and 390-420 NM of torque.
They last forever as long as the oil is changed.
Sell for upto $7000 second hand depending on KLM's.
Add a turbo and intercooler and you are looking at @150+ KW
Reliable and strong.
Even the stock ones pull hard with extractors!
That's my $0.02 worth!
80 Series Turbo - the Toy car...
XR6 Turbo - the work car...
XW wagon - the dogs car...
some of the early ones had a bad batch of big end bearings which were destroying cranks purely because the suppliers, supplied faulty big end bearings, think early 90s, not many problems since
yeh i had always just thought that this motor was prone to problems purley based on what i have read/heard people say, perhaps cos im in the NISSAN club it has been exegerated, i dunno
my mates 75 series has just clocked over 300 000 km's and it still has the power to light up a set of 33in AT's on a dry bitumen road. his has a set of extractors on it and a 2 1/2 in exhaust, and it pulls like a train all day long.

yeah, it does seem to happen that way a little, you are biased against the make of vehicle you drive, now please, join a new club, OR do not buy a nissan or i will never talk to you again
the 1hz is the best motor in the cruiser line up, with a little tickle to the fuel pump and the timing (get a diesel mec to do this) fit a free flow muff and you be flying! my 1hz is putting out 120kw just by doing this. but some motors dont will only go to 105-110kw. why i dont know. hope this helps.
80 series rule, bang us an email - I share my housewith a diesel mech - I wanna know the degree advance you are running - I had to wind my pump back when I first bought mine - overfuelling its tits off.
I am eying off a set of extractors and 2.5" exhaust anyway.
when i brought my 80 with a 1hdt, toyota told me that they recalled all the early 90 models due to sabotage in the factory line. so this means that if your truck fit in that time frame like mine they replace them for you free. like mine.
I've got a Long Body Samurai with a 2L in it that I'm AXT-ing soon. I've also got an HJ-60 with an AXT equipt 2H. What do you guys think of putting that 1HZ in my HJ-60? What tranny and t-case would I need to run? Where can I get that motor? And ofcourse how much will it run me?
Thanks, from Seattle Wa. Good Ole USA!

wehn i saw a LWB diesel samurai, i thought wonder if thats the stoner with 42s on it
How you doing fella!
Those motors and stuff are common over here, same with the turbos.
How much you want to pay? Well its largely relevant to condition. Looks like you are big on the diesel powered rigs! (WHY?) Your samuria (we call them sierras) looks awesome. You are probably best not swapping the 1HZ into your 60 as the 2H with the turbo will be just as good.
Doing well thanks. Well, my 2H is freshly rebuilt with a rebuilt turbo too! That being the case i guess I dont need that 1HZ! BUT, I do need a turbo for my 2L in my LWB samurai. Any of you guys have 2L experience before and after turbo? Is it worth the money to add that AXT kit to it?
Thanks

I'm by know means an expert, but here goes.
The early 1HZ came with the H55F, same 5 speed behind 2H, 3B, 12H-T etc.
As fare as turboing the 2H, most fokes on the DTLC list advise against it because it lacks piston skirt cooling or bottom end cooling. Adding a turbo of course increases compression and thus more heat. Check out the DTLC archives:
