HELP - ASTRA DASH
Hey guys,
Was hoping someone might be able to help me fix this fault.
My wife drives a 2004 Holden Astra and when ever you rev it about 4000 Rpm the dash cuts out total, this includes the radio.....
It returnes to normal when the Rpm lower below 4000..
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance

It might be to keep the rear window from shattering
Just kidding. I don't know, those kinds of intermittent faults are tricky but if I had to guess, I would guess it's simple vibration. It could either be a common ground losing contact when the car is vibrating more or possibly the power side.
I would look at grounds then fuse box. But it is not inconceivable that a wire that's broken inside the insulation could cut itself out like this when vibrating a particular way. So it might be hard to find just with visual inspection.
If it's not vibration I can't think what it could be.

This is not legal advice.
Sorry for the slight hi-jack n_dorphin, but my wife’s 1.8 Astra also has gauge problems.
The Speedo stops working intermittently, when the Speedo stops working the radio/cd volume drops, but does keep working.
I have pulled the instrument cluster out and also the display unit in the centre and there appears to be nothing shorting or earthing out.
Any ideas.
Thanks

This one sounds as if occasionally you are getting low voltage. I know that it is an intermittent fault (Bugger!) but when it happens, try loading the system even more eg turn on headlights and see how bright they are, or too the horn. This might help diagnose the problem if the whole system goes even lower. Failing that, switch off any other loads eg headlights and see if the display returns.
If this is the case, you may have a voltage regulator crook or you may have an intermittent short circuit which is overloading the whole charging system.
