A mate gave me an older 9000lb low mount Warn some time ago, finally decided to fit it today but i have no clue as to how to hook up the solenoid pack (is a 4 solenoid pack).
The winch only has TWO terminals to hook up to, I tried it with a battery and by reversing the polarity it changes the motor direction when i used jumper leads on the 2 terminals.
I also tried by holding one of the leads to the terminal and grounding the other jumper lead on the motor housing but got no sparks or motor movement.
The only wiring diagrams i can find show 3 wires that run to the winch motor, but mine defiantly does not have the third terminal.
Anyone got any tips, it's got me stuffed?

i wonder if all people are actually as good in the real world as they think they are here in cyberland......one of lifes mysteries i spose....

Without going back and having another look at the wiring diagram, I would guess you need to wire the two motor terminals as F1 & F2 in the "traditional" 3 wire circuit (and forget about the ground wire).
Edit: should look at the wiring diagram - the above won't actually work, but hopefully you'll get my drift. Or somebody else will post the correct answer. Or I'll have another think about it later.

Someone may be able to confirm this info, but from memory there is a bolt hole in the body for the negative wire and the F1 and F2 are the directions ( forward or reverse) and will both be positive at one point in time.

This is the wiring diagram i was talking about.
But as i said, my motor defiantly does not have a third terminal, also i have noticed most of the Warn motors have their terminals on the side of the housing, mine is on the end of the motor.
It does have a couple of threaded holes in the end of the motor housing, but i tried to run the motor by powering one of the terminals and earthing to the body, not a thing happened.
I actually have managed to get the coil pack to do as i want today, two leads in and two leads out that are switch by the 4 coils for forward and reverse.
Maybe the motor is none original, who knows.

Both these sites show the XD9000 as having three terminals, so either you have a real old version or an aftermarket motor. I have seen boat anchor winches with only two terminals.

Thanks gents, will see how my hook up goes tomoz, hopefully i will have it solved.
As for the motor, well it's got me stuffed cause i have been surfing the net for hours now trying to find a picture of what it looks like to no avail.
Only thing i can come up with is it is a Warn hoist motor that has been put onto a winch body, other then that i have no clue.
