my old setup.....the reg was binned and a vn v8 reg was run off a line in the bay which ran from the valve in the end of the pas side fuel rail, remove valve and clamp hose str8 on.

I ended up making a surge tank to put the LS1 commodore fuel pump into. It'd be even better if you could fit it in your tank as you get rid of more connections and primer pump etc.
They are cheap i've seen them for $185 new (i got mine free with my motor) have built in regulator (so are built for the no return fuel rail) and as long as you aren't going forced induction will supply enough fuel. No brainer really I went down the external pump track and they are noisy and had no end of trouble trying to get it sorted and ended up getting rid of them.

Best option would be walbro gas-342 intank hi-flow pump, with an aftermarket pressure regulator. The $70 ebay items do the job fine.

Best way to get it in the tank if originally a diesel is to use the 4.5L petrol fuel pickup assembly, then just fit the walbro pump in place of the original.

the VN V8 regulator wouldn't allow enough fuel pressure, i thought they ran around 40PSI, the LS1 needs 58PSI.

VN V8 reg worked fine no overheating no pingin etc

then in my VR commodore LS1 conv i used an ebay reg and set it to
48psi....it never seemed to run 100% correct on 58PSI....just wat i found anyway.

external setups can be quiet its just how u mount it all, lift pump is the loudest just gota mount it on a good bit of rubber.

In what way didn't it run right at 58psi? Optimum for power and economy is 58-60psi.
When I was having issues my ls1 was running on 15psi and up to 70psi but that was heat issues causing vaporisation etc. The standard pumps are give or take 10 psi or kpa but would have to go back through the manual to find the right figures.
You may think your external pump is quiet but then chuck it and go internal and hear the difference. I couldn't believe how quiet the 80 is now compared to how it was with the 044 and external regulator. External pumps with surge tanks etc are really only for boy racers in my opinion because they look 'cool' as there are better options out there.

Could be a number of issues at play there, reg, fuel pump, return line adequate, gauge accurate? 58psi is what is required as specified by GM. It took a surprizing amount of fine tuning to get mine runnning right but pressure is set and steady at 60psi.

There is a nice filter/regulator combo for an inline setup available.
It is out of a C5 Corvette.

Are the standard fuel lines from a gu td42t big enough? 6mm feed and 10 return I think

you dont need a return line for the ls1 if you put the reg at the rear. i would use the 10mm for the supply, that way you know it will handle it fine.

Ls1 commo intake line is 3/8 so about 10mm roughly.
