It comes down to what you want to put in it.

Everyone will have a different opinion.

Tb 48 fits in fairly easly i'm half way through putting one in. Have a look at my build thread.
Commy 5lt I have been in was not too impressive for the time and money involved fitting it. Ls1 would be a better choice in my opinion.
Td 42 would be fairly easy as its all factory parts to fit it.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

Possibly have a look back?

imho, go the 4.8 and chip it, i know of one thats been put in, and its making 160ish kw which is as much as my turbo tb42, and you could still get more out of the 4.8

for a nice easy bolt up conversion they ShortyIQ rock!

yeh i understand

tho i just think my motor is not in to good of shape to do the work to it
it is leaking water out the head into the exhaust and the bottom end bearing has a really nasty rattle and scratching noise come out of it
also i cant find a throttle senser
all my block has heaps of rust and blocks in it every time i open the radiator rust comes out

what do i need to do to get a 4.8 in to the old girl and do i need to mod the gearbox or anything to get it in
also i have not been able to find a price for a 4.8

does any one no where i can get the 4.2 rebuilt and strap a charger on to it in cabooture area that isnt a bunch of rip offs i had a falcon rebuilt not to long ago and i got riped big time

thanks

Find an engine builder in Brisbane but you will pick up TB 4.2 in great condition second hand cheap as. Then if you still want to boost it. Personally I would be doing a TD4.2 conversion. Then turbo it later. More money in your pocket at the fuel station.

they make more than 160 standard.. so your mates is broken.

TB48DE
In 2001 the TB48 surfaced, with 99.5mm bore, 102mm stroke and double overhead camshaft. Shadowing the mainstream TB42/45 they were released as plain engines, which has seen them used in forklifts etc.
DOHC & variable valve timing
245 PS (180.2 kW; 241.6 bhp) @ 4200RPM
40.8 kg·m (400 N·m; 295 lb·ft) @ 3200 RPM

If your rebuilding the TB48, go with either the 5.1 or 6ltr stroker kits (check youtube for some clips of em)

Brian Crower 5.15L Stroker Kit Nissan Patrol TB48

The BC stroker kit for the Nissan Patrol TB48 engine platform incorporates a 108mm stroke, steel billet crank, BC 4340 Pro Series connecting rods rated to 1200+ horsepower. Depending on bore size that you decide, the BC kit will take you up to a 5.15L with 100.5mm bore. As usual, each BC kit features custom CP aluminum forged pistons, 9310 alloy wrist pins, ring pack and buttons. Available in any desired bore and compression ratio for use in turbo or normally aspirated.
