About to put an LS1 in my GQ (factory 4.2 carby) and figured it best to upgrade the brakes before I do..
I want to keep my 15 " wheels.
Any suggestions? can skyline or cruiser 4 spots be converted to suit?

I have just put the Twin Piston GQ callipers from a 92 EFI model onto my 92 Diesel single piston ones
What you need is the Callipers and anchor plate from the twin piston one and rotors. If you want to keep the backing shields on the rotors at the front you need the twin piston backing shields as they are bigger cut out to support the larger calliper
Also i would advise a brake master cylinder upgrade as i just did mine and the standard one isn't able to keep up, very spongey brakes. I am going to put a GU master cylinder and brake booster on tomorrow and see how that helps

why not just upgrade what you've got?
I fitted slotted rotors, good EBC pads, changed the brake fluid because I'm sure that had never been done and fitted stainless braided brake lines.
Truck pulls up awesome now and it only cost me about $500.

The GU Master Cylinder and booster isn't a straight bolt on job, there is a bit of dicking around
To put the booster and master into the car is straight remove the bolts from insde the cab that holds the booster on and swap it out with the GU.
What you have to do is on the distribution block on the chassis (accessed through the right hand side front wheel arch) you need to swap the brake pipes as the master Cylinder on the GU are reversed compared to the patrol and this took me quite a few hours.
When its done you will notice that the brakes are extremly responsive
What i got my booster off was a 2000 model GU TB45 but you can get any GU master Cylinder for Disc/Disc setup WITHOUT ABS.

I have 17" rims, so does this mean the 4.8 gu will fit following the above procedure?
