Hi all
I have got a hilux 1992 with a 3l diesel in it. So like all hiluxs it was gutless, so I have done a engine swap. Now it has a 5l diesel motor with a brand new turbo set up.... Now my drama I installed new 5l motor and turbo, new heavy duty clutch, new front/rear unis. New 2 and a half exhaust front to rear and it has this mongrell vibration at 1500rpm under load in every gear. But drives out of the vibration at 2000rpm. In netural runs/revs as smoothe as a babys bum.
So I pulled motor out thinking it was a un-balance crank. Stripped down motor got balancer/crank/f-wheel/pressure plate all balanced. Slightly out.....
So back she went together, while I was going I put new rings and bearings/ toyota engine mounts and gearbox mount and 2 flexy pipes in exhaust.
Vibration at 1500rpm stuff me I have done everything I can think of so please can anyone out there please help me.....

Sounds like you have a damaged/unbalanced tail shaft. Quick check, take the rear shaft off/out, and drive with it in 4x4 with the front shaft and see if the vibration is gone. If not, look for a damaged wheel/tyre/rim.

What sort of conversion kit is? I know the early holden v6 conversions had an extension spline on the gearbox input shaft which would produce this kind of vibration. Later versions have an extended hub on the crank to space the flywheel back which is far more reliable.
Don't take life too seriously...it isn't permanent.

no it does it any speed highway or around town... it has great power and no somke.. unis are in correct (im a mechanic of 11 years) and exhaust is free from rubbing anthing... as for the caps lock button i wasn't yelling i just satrted typing in it and i couldn't be buggered typing it all again ..... like i said, if you can help me i'm very greatful but keep your dumb ass posts to yourself.........

fitting a one piece shaft just adds in the chance of hitting a rock and ending up with a bent shaft, less likely to happen with a 2 piece. I have no vibrations in my lux with a 2 piece. If you change them when they need to be changed or beef them up a bit, which a mate does for his comp truck and his has been running the same one for the last 3 years with no dramas from the center bearingClanky wrote:

As others have said I would:
- get a wheel balance rotation
- get a wheel alignment
- pull off rear tailshaft and drive it if it makes a difference get a balance
- pull off front drive shaft and drive it if it makes a difference get a balance
- get it on a dyno and put a strobe on the tail shaft etc
- check for a bad injector
- check the harmonic balancer
If it is on at 1500 and off at 2000 I would be looking at anything which has potential phase and can go in and out. If it never vibrated before then I would be paying particular attention to what you changed. I noticed you didn't include your harmonic balaner in teh crank balance .

I disagree, i've never had a problem with my centre bearing nor anyone else i know who still has one, they are only a problem when they need replacing. 1 piece shafts have their advantages, but it also has its disadvantages. They were put in for a purpose and when you modify outside the intended use well then your going to run into problems, if all here say was taken seriously not alot on a hilux would be left useful, granted all oem parts are not suitable but IMO the centre bearing is not one of them unless you have eleventy inchs of lift, then your going to run into pinion angle problems or ROLLUX syndrome, or possibly duals etc where the tailshaft is no longer long enough to maintain an acceptable angle.

i had something similar in my patrol, only at 2500 rpm, turned out to be the above (only a bush rather than bearing, same area of the box tho)Willy Hilux wrote:I had a problem like that under load. Thanks heaps for your helpful hints guys. by the way the ute was dynoed and timed by the turbo supplyer.... but i guess ill look at the gear box now. Yes the vibration was there befor i done the engine swap but was very small.. The tail shaft come out on weekend and i went for a drive and its still there..... So i went through my massive pile of invoices and i have done a new center bearing and spigot bearing. i didn't bring up the ute has new suspension front to rear. Im going to have to look at the gearbox. If you think you no what is worng keep it coming in........ cheers
