hi guys, i just finished, well all but finished my rb30 conversion from carby to EFI-turbo.
as is, it's running standard VL n/a injection, hi mount t3/t4 T04Z turbo, no intercooler, 2 1/2" mandrel exaust with straight through muffler.
i'm running 5psi boost, still at 9.0:1 comp and 10deg timing (to prevent pinging) on 98ron fuel (when it's available)
it goes very well as is, BUT.
the injectors run out of flow at about 6psi and it starts to det/ping.
and i cant seem to buy a wastegate actuator that is full open at 4-5psi, so i think i'm heading for the next duty cycle injectors and a tune to run them. i was going to just run VLT ecu & injectors, but the VLT ecu is setup for 7.1:1 comp and the spark is to savage for the hi comp setup.
does anybody know roughly what size i would need for this setup running 7psi of boost???????????
any help would be great?

your stock NA injectors with a fuel pressure reg are ok with 7PSI...if not get VL turbo ones and if you still need more GTR injectors
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set
vlt injectors are around 30% more flow than the n/a ones..
your options are...
vlt injectors and ecu and retard the base timing to 11-12 degrees BTDC and it will be happy to around 10 psi. on 95/98 ron (maybe a little more but lets be safe)
vlt injectors with n/a ecu. will overfuel across the range, not hugely but will use a noticable amount more fuel and will smell to people behind you. also the n/a ecu has a more agressive timing map due to no "boost retard" (not actually a boost retard but the timing map drops timing back at around 2000 rpm high MAF load) up until around 3000 rpm then increases it again up to 5500rpm. (end of map)
i would say you will have more issues running the n/a ecu in terms of timing, even thought the compression ratio is higher this can be made up in terms of a slight reduction in base timing and higher octane fuel (keeping in mind all mapping was done in 1987/88 when 98 ron fuel wasnt around.
you can either nistune your ecu and run a vlt fuel map with a vl n/a timing map but as above you will have issues, the best bet is to load the vlt rom image and just pull back some timing in the key areas.
if you get onto matt brown from nistune he may be able to load you a 28 pin eeprom chip with the vlt fuel map and one of his turbo 9.0 compression timing maps from his personal car. but the nistune will allow for future upgrades..
fyi vlt injectors are the same as mid 80's bwm 733i, et pulsar turbo and a few others.. calaisturbo.com often has sets going for around 150-200 same price for an ecu.

the gtr injectors are a perfect upgrade formore power while retaining low down managability with the stock (nistuned) ecu.. but unless you like leaving a trail of optimax behind you you will need to adjust the K constant pretty heavily and then chyeck it on a dyno.
