what do you want the tray to do?

My one was built so it could stil be used for camping while allowing the 34s to fit. i could carry a full size spare at the back, two jerries fit in behind that. All my camping stuff would then fit in a couple of tool boxes in the back with a canvas storage bag on top with all my tent, clothes etc. two eskies were then strapped to the tops of the wheel arches.

I want the tray to be somewhat usefull I run 31's and I carry a full
size spare but want to keep it low I was thinking of recessing it in the tray.

When I go camping I really only take a swag, bag of clothes, esky and a box full utensils and cooker etc I was also looking to incorporate a roll bar into it.
I'm just after some ideas on what people have done I quite like oozooks tray but with the tyre down low

Because mine was a style
side I have no mounts so pics of mounts would help
too

this has the spare under the tray and the fridge recessed towards the front edge with a zip around the tarp for easy access.

rims look like 15x8 eagle racing alloys to me, cause i got some exactly the same.

Iam sick of looking at the trayback on my ute and plan to weld a swb tub on to make it sort of a medium wheel base. Iam a bit worried about damage though, think i will need some inconspicuious barwork for protection.

ive seen it but dont have pics,
look up suzuki carry mini truck, and check out the tray, i saw a pic with an original tray from one of these put onto a sierra with a big lift and 35"s
the tail gate even has suzuki stamped in it (like hiluxes)
it looked so good i want one!

That tray is nicely built and all, but it's an example of everything that's bad about traybacks- all the load is about 300mm higher than the chassis rails. There's no good reason for this - it's just lazy design. Any tray designed for an off road car should aim to put the load as close to the chassis as possible for stability and then build wheelboxes on each side of the load area to accommodate the tyres.

There is no good reason to have the whole tray at the height a compressed tyre can reach (and in the case of the car pictured, I'm suspicious there's no wayt he tyre could get within 6" of that tray deck anyway)

Yes, I know the spare tyre is supposed to go below the tray, but my box of recovery equipment and toolbox probably weighs twice what my spare tyre weighs. Why put it all above the lighter spare?

I run the spare vertically behind my tray (when I'm running a spare) I'm, still running the horrible alloy tray I bought my car with, although I've taken three planks out of it and cut it for tyre clearance. It's way too high and ugly, but a replacement is quite a lot of work at the moment.

I hate agreeing with you Steve, it feels like I'm letting the NSW zookers down. :lol:
