GQ HOT AIR FROM GEARBOX

Post by Maverick24 »

I, know this is a subject that has had some mention before but it really has me confused.
I cannot understand why the gearbox seems to get really hot and in turn blows hot air into the cabin.
Somedays I can drive 30-50 K's and it does'nt even seem to heat up. Later that day I can drive down to the local shop and by the time I return you can feel the heat starting to rise.
Hit the freeway and it can be unbearably hot, turn the air con on and it will cool right down (Can't even feel heat in he stick).
I've been told to "live with it. it's a Nissan thing. But I've had a GQ before and never had a problem.
Others have also told me that they have made up some sort of air dam to direct cool air into the tunnel.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Dave.

i get a little bit of hot air in mine due to the fact i had a 2 inch body lift and needed to cut the tunnel a little for the transfer shifter to go to low range.

now ive taken the body block out i need to fix the cut with a new piece of metal and my problem solved.

hope that helps if you have a 2 inch body lift

Hi Dave,
Do you feel heat radiating or blowing?
I have had a problem where I can feel heat radiating from the footwell & tunnel due to heat build up from my exhaust, auto & engine. There was also a big difference in how hot it got depending on the weather & winds outside, anything over 25deg would be unbearable without the a/c going. Heaps of 4WDs have there underlay removed to stop it smelling after it gets wet. What do you have laid under your carpets ? I have used a product called resomat & a layer of underlay which is a combination of 1 layer of bitumen, 2 layers of felt & 2 layers of Aluminium sheeting all compressed together. Works a treat although it still gets a little warm on long trips, but nothing compared to what it was.

G'day Holtrol,
The heat is probrably what you call radiating but outside temp does'nt seem to make much difference, it can get hot on a cooler day and stay cool on a hot day. The air con does'nt seem to cool it because of the colder air in the cab it somehow seems to stop the heat generating if that makes sense.
I bought some heat insulation the other week and will put it in under the carpet next weekend to see if that makes any difference.

I’m sure you would have checked this out already but does recycle/vent lever work properly? Mine blows hot air when the vent is open, even when it’s set to cold.
I’d be packing up my floors, that wooly underlay is cheap & will make a difference. You can spend more money on a better or different products but the heat will eventually make it's way in.
