STANDARD DIFF RATIO - 89' FORD MAVRICK/GQ
STANDARD DIFF RATIO - 89' FORD MAVRICK/GQ
Hello all,
I have a rear diff center out of a 89' Maverick (GQ) which I want to sell. But first I need to know what ratio it is. I can't find it stamped on the center anywhere.
Can anyone help me out?
Cheers Mex

was it out of an auto or manual? 4.2 diesel/petrol r the same ratio in manual which is 4.1 but it could an auto which i cant remember the ratio for. but it also might be out of the rb30 model aswell which is another ratio again...
GQ 4inch spring 2inch bodly lift drop boxs 4.6 diffs 35inch bighorns locked in the front trippin in the rear sliders................ next step duel cab reduction blah blahblah
[quote="Warnie"]The 4.2 auto has the 3.9 ratio, the 4.2 manual has the 4.1 ratio and the rb30 has the 4.3 ratio.
my 5 speed manual was standard 3.9 geared and my mates auto is runnin 4.1 ratios stock the rb28 has 4.3 ratios not too sure on rb30 but most likely the same

4 in king springs, pro comp long travels, gu diffs, 4.6s ,front lokka,35" mtzs, custom made everything ,custom dual cab and a growing list of spare parts
A speed camera would have prevented that!
3.9 for my manual 4.2 Mav.dazgq1 wrote:Warnie wrote:The 4.2 auto has the 3.9 ratio, the 4.2 manual has the 4.1 ratio and the rb30 has the 4.3 ratio.

nope i can assure you that my mav has 4.1s as i just pulled the diff out and counted them to make 100% sure i had got the right r+p.giantracing wrote:if it is a mav 4.2 it will be 3.9
and its a 4.2 petrol. but as i said it has a factory locker. which im pretty sure only came with 4.1s
and no i didnt just pull the diff out to count teeth. bent a pinion last week so rebuild in progress.
You can't rely on that. My Mav was a TB42 manual and had a 3.9:1 diff final drive. You are probably on safer ground with Patrols (as opposed to Mavericks) but any given unit can buck the rule.Warnie wrote:The 4.2 auto has the 3.9 ratio, the 4.2 manual has the 4.1 ratio and the rb30 has the 4.3 ratio.
This is not legal advice.
jack the car up, rotate the wheels once, mark a spot on your drive shaft and count roughly how many times it spins, start it at 90 deg to ground, if it just passes, its 4.1 if it just misses its 3.9, its easy to do and you dont have to pull anything out
Maverick. Unlocked on 35's MOTTO: Lock, Stomp & Hold on
as said above, count the teeth on the crown wheel and divide that number by the amount of teeth on the pinion....
its very simple then post up your answer to tell all above what the ratio is so the guessing competition can stop

Why do u need to work it out before fitting lockers? your diff ratio makes no difference on the lockers....Maverick89 wrote:Hey all,
Im tryin to find out the same thing. It was a petrol but has been converted to a 4.2TD and is auto.
Also running 35' tyres........
Is the best way pulling them out to count them?
Needing to work it out before fitting F+R lockers
And what would be the ratio to put bak in?
If you are looking to put diff gears in when you do the lockers, if you have 35s and do a decent amount of offroad work, put 4.6 diff gears in it.
screwy
