hey
just wondering how easy it is and what sort of cost i'd be looking at.
i've bin thinking of a project car, as i already have a swb sierra for 4wding. i want something that looks slow but will shred tyres and leave behind v6's and stuff. i want a toy. lol so my plan is,
lwb sierra
alloy tray
4agze
5 sp manual
removal of transfer so its rear wheel drive only.

i know i'm gonna have a lot of haters but just remember i have a sierra for 4wding and also its my money. so please only productive comments.

4agze is a huge fab effort and consider it never came in rwd configeration also, so when you finish getting a decent 5spd (t50) behind it and fitting 4a rwd water pump ect... before you can even start worrying about putting the motor in. Then when its finally up and running you still only have 120-30kw stock.
It is so much easier to start with a car that is rwd and makes the power you are aiming for, examples are sr20, ca18, fj20, rotors ect...

the reason i like the 4agze is cause its supercharged so its got no lag. and also i no you can get more power out of em for starters just by putting a 12psi pulley on it. i've got a turbo'd car and i want something with out lag.

Why not supercharge a gti motor or something it will be easier.

Go for it mate if thats what you wont :P i would be leaving the transfer case in it tho. you wont be saving much weight and it wouldent suck much power out through drive train loss and then u still have 4wd. dont worrie about the v6's you will be killing the 8's :cool:

well yer if you were doing the rear diff then that would come up at the next weakest point along with the t50 if u give it a hard time. what rear diff were you thinking of converting to, becasue if you were to go to a hilux or alike they are a far bit wider than a nt sierra which would still be the width at the front and i dont know how much that would effect the handleing. even in the end i dont know how much ova 100km i would be happy to take it.

im not really looking for top speed as its easy to get booked for speeding. i like acceleration since its easier to get away with lol

go for it!


not that hard to convert IMO, they fit the gear box etc is an easy solution.

but to make life easy find one alreadyc converted to rwd format to save $ and time. they get used alot in older rwd rollas so they do come up.

most people tend to rip the sc off and turbo them for high power output.

one of the benfits of them is that they take power upgrade well.

also worth looking into the balck top or silver tops for similar power (120+kw) even without the blower yet... then put the charger on. :twisted:

But for gods sake upgrade your brakes and do what you can to improve the handling as it will fly.

125kw + per ton it will crack!

i allso think go the 20v 4age put a set of 4agze rods and pistons and something like a t28 turbo off a s15 silvia on it, but then you will have to go ecu but for the extra money the gain in power will out way it.

Are you doing the work yourself, getting a workshop or somebody else to do it for you.

40hrs+ is not out of the question for a properly finished conversion.
are you buying a front cut/engine wiring ecu from somewhere(is it complete ??)actually has everything needed to make it run.

+ engine mounts (rwd ge with mods or custom)
remote thermostat from FWD ,RWD ge waterpump doesn't fit with a gze supercharger.
upgraded radiator & thermofan.
clutch
The t50 will break before a stock transfer case.
It sounds like you would be better off with a stronger box,Wseries/lux etc & bellhousing to suit.
More than likely lux diff or diffs as well buy the sounds of it.

they are good fun with gze's

My 20v is running sweet with the 3spd A40 (03-56) Auto....out of AE71 corolla. I got it rebuilt and upped the line pressures a touch...shifts firm and your probably won't break it.

i'll be doing all the work myself. just like i did with my other sierra with the g16b. and i'd actually prefer the 4agze over the 20v mostly just cause its supercharged lol. also i've heard its not worth supercharging a 20v cause they run fairly high compression.

They do have high compression, something like 10.5:1. There was one guy on Toymods who did all the research and worked out that a low boosted 20v would work really well.

Just look at some of the high end turboed cars these days...high compression and small quick spooling turbos to fill in the gap down low...once the motor gets going the turbo runs out of steam and the high rpm peak torque of the high compression kicks in...Sounds like a good theory.

I've wanted to build a rwd sierra drag car for some time now. I would use a built trimatic with 5000rpm stally behind a built and turboed GTi motor with hilux diff and all unecessary 4wd parts removed. In a soft top you could get the weight down close to a stock GTi swift but have a rwd car with and auto and potential for huge slicks. The fastest GTi swift I know of has pulled a 9 second quarter mile so 10's should be achievable. Would be pretty funny seeing a 10 second sierra.

rotary turbo maybe? if i or should i say when i get pulled off the road in my (not quite legal) escort, that ill stick the rotar in a sierra, as it is a legal conversion apparently. maybe take some boost out of it while im at it lol

as for the 4age/ze in a lwb, i put one in my ute. i have had to make a gear box mount and modify the whole crossmemeber to get the gear box to sit nicely. i have also had to move the transfer back around 100mm, you will need to get a shortened jack shaft (if you keep the transfer).
cost could vary a lot depending on who does the work, fabrication, and parts. i paid $1500 for a fully rebuilt motor with some head work, gearbox, transfer with the shortened jack shaft, wiring loom, ecu and drive shafts.

4agze really isnt the best motor bang for buck, just get a rwd 4cyl turbo to start with or a rotory as suggested above
by the time you convert the 4agze to rwd do the wiring, make crossmembers tailshafts ect... do you really want to make more work for yourself by choosing a low powered fwd motor. I have been down that road and wished i started with a ca18, sr20, rotory or the like.

I wouldn't go with an alloy tray, I'd be looking at getting some weight over the rear wheels. Sierras are light and s lwb ute with alloy tray will be very light. I found with mine traction improved dramatically with extra weight over and just behind rhe rear axle.

I've spent a bit of time in cars with both sr20's and 4ag variants. yes the sr's have more power and torque. but 4ag's are a heap more fun to drive IMO. I enjoy driving revy motor's with a large amount of the power band avail. the 4agze is really not much work to convert and damn easy to find one already done. The engine and tranny is roughly 30kg's lighter from memory too over an SR. The big reason to go to a nissan would be the auto seems to be better (i don't have any real world experience with this though) or you are after MASSES of power. the 4ag's run out of steam(reliability) wayy before the sr's do however, but if that's the case then compare apples with apples and look into the 3sgte ;)

put the 4agze in there they are an awesome motor standard enough power and rpms and fun to drive!!
they are super easy to run rear wheel drive just run a sprinter box, i have one in my zook its got the
3 speed sprinter auto. there a strong motor too ive given mine heaps over the years..

i have a 4agze sierra in my paddock rusting away if anyone is interested, im in sydney
its not a supercharged one so they might call it a 4age.
all is needed is a ful pump, new fuel, battery and lots of polish to buff the rust holes out!
Chop it drop it and big block it.
