TD 42 on Engine stand

Has anyone had their TD42 on an engine stand?

I've noticed, looking through the Nissan fact manual that they mount the
engine to the engine stand side-on using the engine mount bolt holes with a special bracket, rather than from the rear end of the engine as most engine stands do. Is this because of the engines weight or for other reasons? I'll be pulling mine out for an overhaul soon and wondering if my engine stand will be up to supporting the weight if i mount it from the rear of the engine. Supposably the stand will support the weight of a 'big block' i'm told...

we are refreshing one in about a week or two, and have done one last year as well. The stand will take it, but will slope down a fair way due to the weight. I will be taking the head of it as soon as it is on the stand. The TB42 sloped down a bit and only the cast iron head is the only real difference in weight. The main proble is when it comes to turning the motor over because of angle, worse if you still have the head on.

Did a simliar thing.. - remedy was to chuck a scissor jack on the stands legs and put a block of wood on it and lift the engine up a bit - gives it a bit of support while you work on it. Only dramas are rotating the engine upside down to work on crankshaft etc.

Had a side mount engine stand years ago, it was brilliant and easy to use and you could do things like fit the flywheel and clutch while it was on the stand. Regrettably I sold it :cry: & the now owner wont part with it .

did you know it is possible that supporting the engine from one end will cause the block to strech !!! hang a motor on an engine stand mic up the bores afew days latter mic them up again you will have different sizes.
