I am looking at a TJ, and have had a look thru the tech questions, and still have some questions.

What are some worthwhile power mods? Can they be chipped? Do extractors/exhaust/aircleaner make a worthwhile difference?

I want to fit big tyres, but keep it low (my last 4by was a GQ on 37's with 5" lift, and I want this one low.)
Would a 2" suspension lift be pretty straightforward, and not put too much load on the geometry etc?
I have heard of a Virtual Lift, is that a pretty neat way to fit bigger tyres, and is it reasonably easy? I would like to fit 33's or 35's for offroad (31's onroad).

I need to keep this thing nice, for my wife to drive during the week.


I will be using this for camping and some basic Gembrook or Toolangi work.

There are five billion answers to your questions,
and all of them based on personal opionions, some of which will be crap..

Best answer is to get onto Ausjeepoffroad and research as much as possible, it's all there.

There are a few blokes on ausjeep from Carrum Downs, see if you can get out for a spin with them. They have a couple of well set up TJ's and know what they're talking about.

If you get stuck, and can't find the right info. pm me here or on Ausjeep.

Why? She used to drive my F150 to work, on 38's, and my 66 Mustang with 418 stroker, she just wants something easier to drive, and something easier to get our little bloke into.

that was my reasoning for a TJ but......... 35's and 5.5in of suspension lift doesnt make it easy, partly cos he is 2 :)

She made me sell the GQ we had, on 37's with 5" lift, when we had our little guy, but I've been looking at the AEV fender lift, and should be able to keep it pretty low.

I would of kept the GQ and lowered it (i asume its 4doors) till little fellow got bit older then he can get himself in just like they climb everything else. The TJ would be harder with only two doors!! Oh well its your call and back to your first question just put after market coils standard height only and good shocks with say 31inch tyres and leave it alone. It will be a good allrounder to suit all.

TJ's easy to load the little ones into. Especially if you have the hardtop - just open the back window & load them in through that.
but space is a premium.

What! you mean reach over the back seat? Maybe if your women is tall enough to reach LOL, as yes room is a" PREMIUM" What about the pram?

Thats how i loaded my neice and nephew into my GQ shorty. I have been looking into the TJ For myself and after taking my neice and nephew around in my shorty there is room for 2 prams and not much else, they are better if you only have one pram. In saying that, if there is a will there is a way. Which is what gives us the great inventive 4bys we have.

power mods stroke it

if you want more force it and stroke it over 400hp can be achieved as long as you have the $$$

Yes very true but are you loading your neice and nephew everyday like say a mother would? because every now and then it wouldn't be so bad, and Gq has a bit more room in the rear then TJ, maybe i'm wrong. And yes i agree where there's a will there's a way.

Definately want the smallest folding pram you can get.
Also remember for the really young slings & carry backpacks can save a heap of room. And once they start walking try and encourage that as much as possible.
But not kidding about loading n from the rear - and when they are really young and the seat is rearward facing it's even eaisier to access that way (relatively).

I flip the passanger seat and chuck the young bloke up and he climbs on in and up, then taps on all the windows at me as i get to the driver side :lol:
