Driving without a CV
Driving without a CV
hey guys,
i blew my cv up last night, short side. just pulled it out then and it's completely smashed. i think the axle broke.
anyway i need to get to work tomorrow and didn't have any luck sourcing one today and was wondering if i can drive without the cv in? the wheel bearing would all be locked onto the stub axle with the lock nuts so i can't see any problems with the wheel fallIng off. i could drain all the diff oil so that it won't piss out everywhere. anyting else i'm missing?
cheers

Your 80 is constant 4wd so the diff is still being driven, if you drain the oil out, the diff won't have any lubrication while its spinning. Patrols aren't constant so you could get away with draining oil and drving around if you had to, aslong as you didn't engaged 4wd or the hubs. Don't recommend it though.

i had this issue not being able to source cv and just put it back together and drained the oil as the other guys said not a drama, drove it from brissy to melb, even via stockton beach, didn't do anything too fun but still drove on the beach haha
Cheers Jonny
