OFFICAL Outback Challenge 2010 Updates!

Post by Alison »

Well it's the start of 'Outback Challenge Fever'!

This year I will be posting live updates everyday on this page for everyone to see.

The event is being held from 21st - 28th May starting in Broken Hill.

For anyone interested in spectating here are some details: http://www.outback4x4challenge.com/spectators.php

This link gives you details on the Updated Format, Event Schedule, Spectator Packages, FAQ and a Booking Form.

An updated competitor list will be available shortly.

We will also be putting updates on our Facebook Page Outback 4x4 Challenge. Join up as a fan and see all the old pics and videos being currently posted.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/outback-4 ... 5091005630

Looks like it could be any interesting event this year as there is a lot of water coming down from up north. Paul will be leaving the mud stages until last to setup as conditions could change quickly.

What other info would you like to see??

Regards
Alison

One Month To Go

Its really close now and after talking to many teams, they are still working on their vehicles but very very keen to head to Broken Hill for the event start in May.
There is one major change that has occurred for 2010 and that is the stages in Broken Hill on the start weekend.
The quarry which has traditionally been home to the Sunday stages has been sold.
We decided it was a good year for a change and will now have two stages running at Nine Mile on Saturday.
One in the afternoon which will be the prologue and the other in the evening after a dinner break.
Broken Hill Legacy has been the beneficiary of the gate takings at the Sunday stage so this year there will be a friendly face from the Legacy team down at Nine Mile who will greet spectators and will have leaflets with competitor details. So if you are attending remember you are supporting the returned soldiers and their families in the Broken Hill region through attending this stage.
Both Rotary and Legacy will be selling great food onsite .
.
Rain and wet weather
There has been plenty of rain falling in northern Queensland and some of it is heading down the Darling towards our Mud and water property at Viewmont which is great, it will allow us to expand the water and mud areas.
Not all water from Queensland heads down the Darling so we don’t have to be alarmed, but the mud stages will not be set up until five days before the event to utilize the best of the water we can and allow for any issues we might have with accessing areas.
The other areas of the competition are at the mercy of local rainfall. As the outback weather can be unpredictable we recommend everyone traveling with the challenge keep at least a few days of rations of food in their vehicles for emergencies.
Following the event from home
For information on the event you can use our website and this year for on the ground updates now and during the event from competitors, marshals and official updates, go to the facebook page outback4x4challenge Get all your friends to be a fan, we are putting pics, video and more up each day and they can get updates from twitter too during the event every day. There is always general event information on the website www.outback4x4challenge

********Lastest news in*******

Unfortunately it looks like Bill Tsaousis is unable to compete in the OBC this year. Bill's car is not ready to race, he is getting some improvements done on the vehicles suspension. Spoke to him today and is all keen for next years event.

Will miss you guys this year!

How are all the other teams going?

I'm doing the same as Bill, new shocks, different diffs front and back, new tray (but still painted blue). Still alot of work to do but I have confidence in my nephew Pete to have it ready. Anyway Hobbsy will finish anything not done when he gets here (he thinks he's coming to the Gold Coast for a holiday) We'll be there. Lawrie

You'll be right, I'll give you a little bit of coaching on the GPS when we get up there if you like.

Sharpy you are going to love this event!

The trick is keeping the car going for the whole week, it's like having several winch challenges in a row.

If people only saw the state of the Hilux at present they would never expect it to be ready on time. And if they think their own car cant be ready but Lawrie's can then they need to rethink. If everyone saw what "we" are doing then they would all be starting again building new trucks.

Lawries quote of the week .... I told Lawrie I'm already fearful of sitting in the passenger seat this year - Lawrie said I should have been more fearful last year before the changes were made. Gulp!

Anyway, keep up the good work up there in Sunny Qld this long weekend boys. (Bruce K, Sean C, Pete S all pitching in with Lawrie). 19 more sleeps to go before we head off.

Meanwhile this weekend I think I will mow the lawns then go fishing.... in Melbourne. Oh what it is to have a driver who lives interstate... ;)

Nice work Alison. Are you staying for the week?

Can you see them now? I think I fixed it!!

The last 2 days went well, Bruce came up on Saturday and did a heap of welding then Sean came over yesterday and helped with some technical things. They finished at about 12.30 this morning and are back at it now. My poor 100 is really looking forward to getting its spot back in the shed!!

With ONLY 15 DAYS to GO how is everyone going with their preparation???

I know Al Mac and Shayne will be out doing some testing shortly.

By the sounds of things Lawrie and Hobzee will be doing their testing on the way to OBC.

How about the other teams? Have their been any major hold ups? Will you be ready on time?

Arb Bendigo car is almost back on track. We were ready about a month ago, started doing a bit of testing and heaps of unforseeable stuff went wrong. One new thing each week. Car overheating first week. Trans blew up second week. Turbo blew up third week. No major new mods except for mounting a new big 24 v alt in the a reasonable spot and getting rid of that other crap ,run out of time last minute 24v alt mounting job which caused all our greif on the cars last outing. Facing a few late nights yet but we will be there. Cheers Greg and Liam.

Just had an update come through from Robbie Calvert & Andy Miller.

The Disco has had a major overhaul, now has the ute chopped off and a tray. It has also had a power upgrade with the fitment of Gen3 Motor & Auto.

Appartently they are running close to time and will do the finishing touches on the trailer on the way up.

It's getting exciting now!!! Only 7 days until the event begins!!

P.S. Sorry to mention that to those people still building cars.

hello all, I see that many are not ready yet, but that's part of this type of competition, I still remember last year that my car did not arrive soon, but my good friends helped me a lot with hobzees4wdshop rubbers and many things more, and my friend Jhonattan of Silver City, his father and mother all excellent people, good luck to all and hope to see you in 2012.
a special greeting to hulk team. :D :D
