97 TJ - DIFF SLACK

Post by BHILL »

Owner of 97 TJ.

While removing front and rear drive shafts for balancing and replacment of Uni's I noticed significant slack in the front Diff - ie when I could rotate the front shaft approc 1/4 turn.

Any advice / suggestions on what is causing this and if it is something to be concerned about would be welcome.

Thanks.

Thanks I appreciate the replies - does it make any difference that an ARB locker is fitted.

As an aside I would like to compliment Wooders on 1. the service and support they offer through their business, I recently sent some pics through and asked them to identify a transmission component the response was same day and helpful - no charge as well!
2. the commitment to supporting forums like this.

well done.

that is one of the worst ways to determine 'play' in any diff.

i dont think he was using this method as a rock solid way to determine any sort of play, obviously if anyone was super concerned they would do more then rotate the driveshaft. I was a little confused when my front shaft moved and the back one hardly notes at all
